This is one of 9 Goenka Vipassana centers in Thailand (although originating in Myanmar, perhaps an irritating factor?), all run by donations only. They do 10 day retreats. Maybe the ran up against some local competition or have some pissed off traditional neighbors? Pretty legit, perhaps the best and a valuable resource for Thais and foreigners serious about starting or learning the basics of essential Buddhist practice. I have done 4 of them in various other centers. Very Highly recommendable! See the other centers around Thailand at https://kancana.dhamma.org/ They are all quite popular and usually booked a couple of months in advance, but very well worth it! On the site, they say closed until October '25 for renovations. This could close it permanently? May they continue to contribute to and help, May All Beings Be Happy..! -

Agree with most of what you say. However, foreigners are not really the greatest concern of the Thai government anyway and for the Thais the number of those who are actually willing and able to stay out of the country for half a year is minimal. Most people just do not have a nomadic life.
