Yellow Shirts Kick Off Anti-Reconciliation Bill Rally

PAD no vote thing was a cop out in my opinion. If they had conviction and balls they would have set up their own party and asked people to vote for them. To do so though would have potentially exposed how little support they had, and they didn't want that, so they went the "no vote" route.

They had set up an own party (New Politic Party), but than distance themself from it. At one point even saying that the own party is as bad as the other parties.

The problem is how can you set up a party when you are a movement to oust Thaksin, with people from the extreme left, extreme right, middle class, labor unions, libertarians, monarchists and religious nuts. That works only if there is a common enemy.

PAD is nothing without Thaksin.....For now that might play in their hands, lets see what they can make out of it.

I guess the yellow shirts are against uniting Thailand and want nothing but trouble. The government should crack down on these trouble makers.

100% correct, they should all be shot. One suspects that they are armed with M-79 grenade launchers and have plans to travel to Chiang Mai and burn it to the ground

I've just left the rally. Probably 5000 tops. Rallying Thai style - everyone brings a mat to sit on and fans to keep themselves cool. And ngan style too - lots of free eats! Marched over as scheduled, typical 10 minute walk, then made a rather threatening drive up the gate of parliament. The "sound truck" aka mobile rally platform is where they do all the speeches from. Currently parked. Last I heard the guy was convincing everyone to run up the fence and shout profanity (really). It's quite funny but also incredibly sad that everyone did do just that.

The leaders were repeatedly stressing the point of peaceful protest, but also stressed the point that they'll be there as long as it takes. iirc the bill won't even be discussed until tomorrow...

Probably be like the airport sit in, a long sleepover slumber party in front o parliament.

Got bored when I realized they're not going to storm the gates (yet).

Though definitely saw a fair share of black bloc-esque guys dressed in black with bandanas hoping for shit to go down.

Come on George. They were formed/inspired because their PM was a blatant criminal, performing outrageous acts of self-interest and corruption that you would certainly object to if carried out by an Australian PM. Not that any PM in oz would even try because he would be looking for a new job after the next election, and a jail cell shortly after.

Thaksin hasn't changed, and they haven't forgotten. And that is sufficient cause to protest even if you ignore all the other stunts he's been pulling over the last 6 years.

The People's Alliance for Democracy vows to prolong its rally until it wins victory.

Core leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, or PAD, Sondhi Limthongkul, said the group must come out to protest any time there is a threat against the Monarchy or a push for an amnesty.

He said the end of the rally against the reconciliation bills depends on when the group wins victory.

Another core leader of the group, Major General Chamlong Srimuang asked protesters to move from the Royal Plaza to the Parliament House, where its affiliated groups are gathering.

PAD protesters this afternoon continued joining the rally at the Parliament House against the reconciliation bills.

Meanwhile, about 1,000 policemen, including those from crowd-control units, were deployed to maintain security at the rally site.

Anti-Reconciliation, the heading says it all. Just why are the yellowshirts so hell bent on keeping Thailand divided. There will never be peace and progress whilst these rebels are around.

Those "rebels" wouldn't be around if there wasn't this continual push, dressed up in transparent "reconciliation" clothing, from Thaksin (and chums) to get given a get out of jail free card.

Lets hope they all go home in he knowledge that they are toothless now and their antics wont work anymore, more mature people have realised the error of their ways and moved on and are trying to move the country forward at last. sleepy.gif

Cue the flames hahahahaha

Can you please tell me who these people are that are trying to move the country forward?

When the price is too high, you protest the bill.

Why would you rush there if there was violence? Are you after a 7 million baht compensation pay out?

This is a Reconciliation Rally, both the yellow shirts and the red shirts don't want the Reconciliation Bill. They both want justice, not amnesty for TS and his mercenaries.

I really hope the yellow shirts and red shirts merge

Hopefully the red shirts realize they were used and

have now been thrown on the trash heap by the person

they thought was their dear leader

I am not sure anything can be done to stop this bill

but should the reds and yellow merge and for one

big anti-party they could become one heck of a force

to be reckoned with.

The red leaders have surely had their bank accounts

filled to the rim, would be so nice to seem them now

turn on TS

Didn't get a chance to go inside today but the roads are more affected than yesterday. Ratchavithi is blocked for a couple of blocks.

Edit: better just to avoid the whole area if possible - blocked roads mean confused drivers and buses pulling those tight turns on the bridges/canals mean lots of traffic.
