I'm looking for some advice. Our daughter, Thai citizen and Australian Permanent Resident, aged 16 went back to Thailand on the 19th of February as the Grand Mother was quite ill.

The Grand Mother is now fine, though our daughter refuses to return to Australia.

She has not finished school in Australia and is not enrolled in school in Thailand. She left school at age 14+ due to bullying and psycholgical problems etc.

She has hooked up with a 19 year old guy who works in a factory in Siracha, though she is still at home, so hasn't made the big leap into the deep.

Given that she is under 18 years of age, are we, her Thai Mother and I, Australian Step Father, entitled to go to Thailand and get so that she returns to school in Australia. Once she is 18 and has some education, she can do what she wants.

Is there any benefit going to the Authorities like the Tourist Police or Oz Embassy.

I am not totally ignorant of Thailand, having lived and worked there for about 4 years and having picked up the language, though no reading skills.

Any advice or guidance would be immensely appreciated.

Cheers for now.

Under Thai law she is a minor and he parents can decide the place of residence and as a result she can be taken back to Australia. Forcably, but an airline will not board a screaming youngster against her will. (In Thailand the age of majority is even 20 years).

Going to the police or other authorities is not going to help much, although they can warn the boy to stay away from the girl. Especially when the boy turns 20 and the girl is still a minor, he can be charged. keeping a minor away from her parents is very serious.

It is better to try and tackle the root of the problems and have some serious talks with her about what is going on and what she want to do with her live. Forcing her is of course no solution, it might bring her back but nothing more.

She is 16 now...

will do what she wants when she is 18....

why not just play it by ear give her the suport she needs Now..

Then at 18 she's on her own...

Maybe by then she will have grown up a bit and want to go to school and act like a grown up.?

Kids grow up so fast now a days.....

good luck
