(1) do they use your bank statements as a way of confirming address? mine is in my grans address as this is where i was staying before i left home 2 years ago. since being home nearly a year i had'nt got round to putting it in my mum's address where im staying now as my mum's a pain in the bum for chucking my letters in draws and never to be seen again. will this be a problem? my names on the rent sheet showing i live at my mum's house though.

(2) on a letter from my g/f sister saying that she's going to look after my g/f's child, does she need to show proof of earnings or any extra documents other than a letter signed by her?

(3) so it's 100% that they need the land document and will keep a copy of the land document not the original as the g/f does not want to hand it over? lol

(4) do i need a letter from my landlord saying that it's fine for my g/f to stay? i spoke to them on the phone and they said its fine for her to stay but they would'nt send me a confirmation letter! sad.png should i ring again and demand one!

(5)are my mum's utility bills needed as proof of address?

i think thats all my questions would be great if i could have a little more help with this im very nearly done smile.png

thanks simon

(1) I wouldn't think so, but an explanation in your letter would clarify the situation.

(2) She will need to show that she has room in her house to accommodate the child and that she has sufficient fund available.

(3) Yes they will need to see the original. We have handed over three Chanotes without problem.

(4) You do need proof of landlords permission for her to stay.

(5) Not certain...but my general approach is the send documents to back up any statements made or if they may be useful. If in doubt, submit. Better to send more than they require than omit something they require.

I always make two lists of documents supplied. One list of applicants documents and one list of sponsors documents, so that the ECO can see exactly what has been submitted. Make it as easy as possible for the ECO to assess the application in the limited time available to him/her. But don't let this limit the documents you submit.

Regarding your reluctance to submit original Chanote:-

If you look at the hard copy of the visa application form, on page 01 it states:-

'The UK Border Agency may take a decision on your application based on the information contained here without interviewing you. Therefore please ensure that you submit all relevant original documents (please see supporting documents guidance)'

Part 11 Supporting documents checklist.

'Please ensure you submit all relevant original documents that you want the Entry Clearance Officer to see when considering your application'

Can't she find a job and get the boss to write a letter for her, how long she has worked there, how much she is paid, ok for her to have a 3 or 4 week holiday in the UK, at least it gives a reason to return.

I keep on reading about guys having a Thai girlfriend who is unmeployed and has a kid, doesn't anyone think of meeting a girl who has a job and no kids, just a idea, makes the visa process a lot easier!

I wasn't having a pop at you, but there does seem a lot of guys in the same position as you. Without a strong reason to return you stuggle for a visit visa, I had two visit visas refused last year, but my girlfriend at the time (now wife) had a job, but no land, no money. You should ask for a shorter time for the visit, we asked for 3 weeks, 3 or 6 months is way too long, if want 6 months you will also need have a very healthy bank balance to show UKBA. Maybe you do another trip to Thailand as a stop gap, take some photos, maybe find her a job and apply for a visit visa later on in the year.

if we ask for 3 weeks they'll give a 6month visa in her passport anywa ? 35.000baht flight 4000baht for visa for 3weeks seems a waste seen as we aint seen each other in 10months

That's right they will issue a 6 month visa and you can stay 5 months if you wish, but asking for 6 months is big no no. When my wife was issued her visit visa last year and we got to immigration at Gatwick, the border agency lady wanted to see her return ticket, this was August 25th 2011 and the return date on the ticket was 8th February 2011, 5 1/2 months in the future, the border agency lady wanted to know why so far in advance, I said we may want to stay more than 3 weeks, she agreed that putting the latest date before the visa expires was a good idea. Ask for less and use more!

Just add a description of the accommodation and a few pictures

(I presume you meant return Feb 2012)

Has she applied for a visa since then?

If so, did she offer an acceptable explanation as to why she stayed for 5 1/2 months when she asked for 3 weeks?

Posted

I would apply for an initial visit of maybe 2 months, just to get her the visa. Then next time increase the period of stay. This way she has a good history with the UKBA, as she was there for 2 months and left after the 2 months period, this history is important as well.

Remember if your Mum is in anyway sponsoring she will also need a copy of her passport to prove she is a British Citizen.

When my wife visited the UK with me, we had given the ECO a copy of my Mums passport, letter from the Building Society about the house ownership and a letter of invitation.

Get the docs sorted out, then come back here, make a list and see if anyone has any comments or tips for you.

Good luck

Yes February 2012. No, hasn't applied for a visit visa, applied for a settlement visa, that was granted 25th May, in the UK now. The explanation was I found employment and we stayed for 5 1/2 months instead of 3 weeks. I was living in Thailand and we travelled back together in August 2011.

I dont see a problem with you writing it on her behalf, thats what ive always done and it's been fine.

If you write a letter for her you must make it clear that it is you who is writing it on her behalf. You've bollixed up one application with a photoshopped picture; you don't want to do so again with a dodgy letter!

If she is phoned by the embassy and asked about the contents of the letter; will she know what's in it?

Better, in my opinion, for you to write a sponsor's letter and put in that any extra information or expansion of answers on the application form which may be required.

Posted

To be fair 7by7, I've screwed up 2 visit visas and 1 settlement application so far, but I've secured 1 visit visa and 1 settlement visa, 2 ot of 5. Mr Simon999 needs to learn by his mistakes and with some help he will!

Section 8 of the on-line application form covers this aspect of the application:-

Q 8-112... Have you used an agent or representative to complete this application? - Yes

Q 8-114...Please give details of the agent/representative's name and address...simon9999 + address + tel. no.

This makes it clear that the applicant's partner is acting as their representative for the application.

Yes, but

should i type it as if it were her who was typeing it

isn't acting as her representative; it's pretending to be her! Hence my saying

If you write a letter for her you must make it clear that it is you who is writing it on her behalf.

I still feel that it is better for the sponsor to write the letter.

I don't think it matters whether you ask for 3 weeks or 6 months.

You still have to get over the "reason to return" hurdle.

And I think actual holiday allowance from most Thai employers is about a week or two. It just comes down to if you present your v/v application in the right way and if they believe you.

My gf (now wife) did not work and we entered homemaker on the visa application but we provided other reasons to return and showed I paid for the household expenses, school fees etc (plus loan to buy the house!)

The only comment came from an immigration officer at Heathrow who wanted to know why she did not just said housewife! Her reply was she had trouble pronouncing the word 'wife'!

hi just a little update and 1 question.

im just waiting on the landlords letter of confirmation that she can stay. it should be any day now.

i've filled the visit visa out and printed it. i hate doing the visa online i get proper stressed out! i made 2 spelling errors on it, 1 being (nationality apllicant) i put thailand meant to put thai, dunno why i did it i just did. so i went back through it all and clicked on the nationality but it wouldn't let me click on it i tried like a 100 times but i did'nt want to start it all again it took me an hour and half to do it. so i left it as thailand sad.png

also her sisters name finishes with just a ( y ) on one part of the visa i put it as ey at the end and did'nt notice untill i printed it. sad.png

question is will it just be ok to make note of these spelling mistakes on my index page before the start of the visa? or do i have to fill the hole dam thing out again?

cheers simon

Don't worry about the spelling errors, a brief note as you suggest correcting them is fine.

Alternatively, correcting them on the form and then having the applicant initial the corrections is what I would do.

The ECO looks at the printed form, not the online one.

hit a snag! taken 2weeks for the landlord to reply! do i 100% require a landlords permisson letter? my mum's (occupant) put a letter of invitation for the visa application. my landlord/houseing association said its fine for my girlfriend to stay but wont give a letter of confirmation unless they get confirmation from the embassy or where it states its a requirement of the visa application. i looked on the guidance notes it just says about the occupant giving confirmation? any help would be great thanks

A landlord's letter is less important for a visit than it would be for settlement.

I would say in your sponsor's letter that you mum's landlord has given verbal permission but wont give written permission unless requested by the embassy.

When I brought my gf in, the immigration officer who processed us at the airport said to make sure she left at the time we said in the application or we might have problems the next time we apply. I have never figured out how to bring her back within the visa period without causing problems or reapplying.

im not concerned with future visa's.

can she enter the uk without a return ticket booked? can she enter the uk with a return ticket booked for 6months time? does she have to enter the uk with a return ticket booked for 3 weeks time?

cheers simon
