Mrs. Nalini said that the government will consider the proposal of the Thai women network, uniting women from the country's 5 regions, which calls for the government to establish measures and policies to increase women's participation in all types of activities to a 50:50 ratio. The group also asked that a fund be established to financially aid the development of women at the local level while updating laws concerning women to correspond to the current situation.

Insurgents launch coordinated attacks in Pattani

The Nation

PATTANI: -- Insurgents launched four coordinated attacks in Pattani on Sunday night but no one was injured, police reported.

They fired M79 grenades at two military posts in Pattani's Yarang district and set fire to a school in the same district as well as burning a cellular site belonging to Dtac in Yaring district.

Pol Col Tuandare Juthanan, the commander of Yarang police station, said insurgents fired two M79 grenades at an Army post near a dam in Tambon Mohmawee at 9pm. The post belongs to the Army development corps.

At almost the same time, insurgents fired two M79 grenades at a ranger post in Moo 4 village of the same tambon. Rangers fired back at the insurgents.

No one at the two posts was injured.

Also in Moo 4 village of the same tambon, insurgents set fire to a one-storey wooden building of the Taladnud Ban Ton Makham School around the same time as the grenade attacks.

Three fire engines took about one hour to bring the blaze under control and the building was completely destroyed.

Pol Col Mana Naklung, commander of Yaring police station, said insurgents set fire to a Dtac cellular base pole in Moo 3 village in Tambon Tanyong Doloh.

The fire caused only minor damage to the pole and quickly died out as it lacked enough fuel to burn the entire pole.
