I am being offered a position in Bangkok and would be there for at least three years so I am bringing my family over.

The company will pay for the kids' schooling (within reason of course) so I have been asked to research the various programs of merit there. I would prefer an American curriculum, but an IB would be acceptable as well. Solid credentials for the school are important to us as the kids have been in excellent public school here and I don't want them to be behind when we return, rather ahead if possible.

Any solid information or experiences shared is appreciated.

I think all the international schools are now offerinf IB, in secondary at least.

Using Google you can find 24 schools in Bangkok with American Curriculum, including the aptly named American School of Bangkok.

I would say ISB in Nichada Thani. I know they have a lot students whose parents working at the US Embassy, as well as those in similar situation as you attending.

My manager and Managing Director of my company (both American), have their kids attending it also.

ISB is a very good school, but he did mention that company would pay " within reason"

ISB is one of the most expensive, so depends upon what his company means by "within reason"

It also would depend where he is loving and working. If outside of BKK then ISB is not really an option่.

Even if in Bangkok, depending on where he is living, that could mean up to 1 and a half to 2 hr commute each way to school for his kids. Which would be a nightmare for his kids

Top schools are ISB, Pattana and NIST- all of them have fees far north of 20,000 USD per year per child. ISB and Pattana are too far out of town center i feel but NIST is close to asoke.

but NIST is close to asoke.

But in terms of facilities, location the other 2 are way nicer.

But I have heard that NISTs facilities are great- constantly upgraded- because NIST is run on a not-for-profit basis so all school fees go into infrastructure and hiring good teachers. Im not sure if this is the case for ISB, Pattana?. Also the location of both Pattana /ISB makes a commute from central bkk take 1.5 more hours??? Very harsh/cruel for younger kids..The alternative is to live around those schools but then you are in the middle of nowhere vis a vis bangkok and such a hassle to come in at weekends/ during the week to go to the good shops, restaurants etc

I have heard Pattana is the best of the three schools (by a very fine margin, but all 3 are world class and certainly better than any state schools back in the west) but the location takes it off the table for us.
