I am applying for a visa to visit my boyfriend in the UK for 10 days. We are arguing what documentation is needed. I asked him to provide his copy of passport including all the Thailand stamps and places we've travelled together, his 6 months bank statements, proof of employment, letters of invitation from him and his mum (he is currently living with her) and her mortgage papers. He scanned and sent everything except the bank statements. Instead he sent me a copy of bank summary from November - December 2011. The amount of money is more than sufficient for my 10 days stay but I remember that documents should not be older than 3 months. He told me to go ahead with my application but I'm not sure the bank paper is valid. Should I follow my instinct and wait till he sends the rest?

Thanks.

Note: I am paying for my flight but we will be sharing the living costs that occur whlist I'm there. So I'm pretty sure I need his bank statements.

I'm pretty sure that if the bank statements are 6 months out of date, then the visa will be refused. Don't risk applying without up to date statements ( unless you have sufficient funds of your own to cover the trip, etc ).

Bank summaries were enough for me, but mine were up to date There were gaps in my statements and pay slips, but they could see that I'm in regular employment. I alos pointed out that my over all lack of savings is down to frequent trips to Thailand.

Don't forget it is you applying, not him!

For a visit you will need to provide evidence that the visit/stay is affordable but you need to produce satisfactory reasons to return. Assuming you are employed ask the employer to provide confirmation of employment and 'permission' to take time off. As this is for a short stay you can argue the relevance of this permission but confirming it is holiday due will help. Provide your bank statements/bank books etc.

Evidence of property owned in Thailand etc will make the visa fairly straight forward I would suppose but it is better to give more information than is needed because an application may be rejected without requesting additional information.

If living costs are to be shared then your boyfriend needs to provide up to date financial information plus evidence of accommodation etc.

It seems a lot but it is not worth taking chances. A poorly prepared application is much likely to be rejected than one that has been well put together. 'Our' first visit visa was not particularly well prepared and was rejected. Once I had learned a lesson all subsequent ones were issued uneventfully.

Sorted! I'm funding myself, mostly! He's been here three times in less than one year so I can't ask for more wink.png So I've been putting money in my savings since I started dating my boyfriend because I saw this coming. I just want to make sure I have 'enough' in my account. But he is away for two weeks for training and can't get me his statements till the end of this month so I asked my mum to get her bank statements as my backup fund. And his mum is sending me a letter of invitation and tenancy agreement so I hope that's okay. My only concern is how I can show them that I really know his mum since we've never met. She and I wrote to each other a few times. But once a friend of mine got her boyfriend's parents to send an invitation letter and she was rejected. They said she failed to clarify how they knew each other. Just that! Didn't even ask for more papers/evidence! I applied and was granted a visa to the UK before but I'm still nervous this time! unsure.png It's a stressful process. Gotta dig up phone bills, emails, chat log, photos, etc. Arghh! But thanks everyone! wai.gif
