I am an American with a retirement visa. If I accept employment and get a working permit I assume I will have to change my visa. What kind would it be changed to and will the new visa require me to make visa runs? Also if I stop working and want to change back to a retirement visa will I have to return to America to do that? Thanks much for any help.

You would have to change to non immigrant B visa and if you do not meet the income or other requirements for extension of stay you would have to leave after 90 days and obtain a new visa. If you meet the requirements (believe 60k is current monthly requirement for American) you would extend your visa at immigration each year.

To return to retirement O visa would not require a return to the US as you can do the process inside Thailand.

Is the cash requirement (60,000 US) the same for Canadians?
