Government-run Pattaya Pawn Shop runs out of cash

PATTAYA:--A local Government-supported Pawn Shop which is designed to support local citizens by allowing them to pawn valuable items at a lower interest rate, compared to private pawn shops has run out of money.

On Monday we visited the Pattaya Pawn Shop and spoke with Khun Suchart, the shop manager, who appreciates that numerous complaints have been made to Pattaya City Hall regarding the shop which received 20 Million Baht in 2011 from City Hall. Due to cash flow problems the shop is sometimes unable to pawn items and asks for people to come back at a later date.

These government-run Pawn shops are situated throughout Thailand and are designed to assist local Thai citizens who may need to Pawn items urgently but are unable to pay interest rates normally asked for at private pawn shops. Khun Suchart claims he is waiting for the Mayoral elections to be completed and will then request additional funds from City Hall.
