Your first trip to SVKT? You can take a tour bus from Mochit, or fly to one of the local airports, all depending on your budget.

You might consider a package, here's one, and please note, I've NOT taken this service, but it does look interesting:

Just do a Google for: savan vegas visa run

A friend returned on Tuesday from this location and said there were

170 people in the line !

But 80% of them were from other Asian countries.

But the noticeable fact was that Westerners took about only 20 -30 seconds at the

application window wheras the Asians took a minute or even longer for some reason.

Anyway he was number 117 and he was in line for well over 1 hour.

The collection process the next day also took him 30-40 minutes

IMHO it's easiest to fly via Lao Air. It was more expensive but the flight only takes about an hour and a half. If you do choose this method, make sure that you have your transportation from the Savannakhet airport arranged. There are no taxis or tuk-tuks there. Also make sure to drink some Beer Lao...great stuff!

OP, As another poster metrioned, you can get a bus from Mochit 2 bus station to Mukkdahan. I think its not more than 300-400 baht, but its a long trip (about 9 hours from memory) so keep that in mind.

Once you are at the Mukkdahan bus staton you should look for the timetable for the bus that does ithe run over the friendship brige2 into Suv..

It is a nice new bus and i think is 100 baht, they will wait for you to pass customs and the bus will be on the other side to then take you to Suvanakhet bus station.

If you want to stay at the Casino, or even just use the Casino bus service, i noticed they will take you to the casino from either Mukkgdahan or Savanakhet staions, but seeing how i didnt have a pre-arranged Lao visa, i didnt use that option. I got a tuk tuk from the station to the border for 100 baht and then went hrough customs in my own time and got the same bus to Suvahnakhet bus station. From there tuk tuks wll take you to the embassy for around 50 baht...well, it used to be that price anyway

Once on the river in Suvanakhet it is easy enough to walk to the embassy and there are many cheap hotels in the vacinty along the river.

Have a good trip and be sure to report back. wink.png
