^Another great suggestion, thank you :) I like how you mention it works ~90% of the time, it is so true how fickle classes can be.

I've been using this one recently.

Divide the students into two teams (Imaginary line down the centre of the classroom).

One student from each team comes to the board, and turns to face their team. They must not look at the board.

I write a word on the board, and the teams have to give clues to the student at the board using English.

The first one to guess the word correctly is the winner, and their team get the points.

I find that the simplest games are the best.

An easy 5 or 10 minute game that requires no preparation, word association

Divide the class into teams, 4 or 3 is a good number.

Teacher starts off with a word, ie the sun. The next team must say a word connected to the previous, ie hot. Next team something connected to hot, ie shower.

Words cannot be repeated, specific nouns should be avoided as kids will get into names of characters in games the teacher hasn't a clue about, but they can be fun at times if it's well known people, ie ugly-Wayne Rooney- Man U etc.

If the team doesn't respond in 5 seconds, they're knocked out.

In a good class this game can lead down surreal paths, Thai kids' imaginations can be quite something.

A good way to finish a lesson
