So ordinarily our bill is1000-1300 baht...

Last month the bill was 400bt...no worries maybe cos of all the fricking outages over the storms yadda yadda)

This month 40bt...oops checked the meter ..stationary ( we have two fridges... that would mean it should atleast rotate?)

So tell the wife tell the girl in the EP office..

She presents the bill and got some smart remark about being cheap charlies with electric..

The boss man was standing behind at the time so told the wife tell him I have checked the meter and it's f..d!

Girl talks to big boss then says check the meter when have something big switched on..!!

<deleted>!!! tell her already checked and send someone to check! No!! you check little EP lady says...

So now it's a couple of weeks and still no register on meter....

So how to do...lots of witnesses we told 'em but nothing in writing of course.

Expect after another 3 months they will accuse us of tampering....will tell 'em again when paying next 0? bill...but...

Appreciate no real answers... so somewhat rhetorical really......

Now I am mostly ethical and pay for what I get ...just don't want some massive fine or.... down the road..!

Photograph the meter and with everything in the house turned on photograph it again an hour later. If you have time stamp ability with the camera enable it. Do a rough calculation of the power consumption of all the appliances that are turned on. Print it out and request to speak to the 'boss' and not the minion to show it to.

A couple of years ago my electricity meter stopped moving. After about three months the electricity company noticed that I'd had a zero bill for that period. They changed the meter and decided to "estimate" the bill for the missing months. Their estimate was more than double my normal bill (for when the meter was working) - far higher than my highest ever monthly bill. They refused to reconsider their ludicrous estimate and threatened to cut me off. In short, it's best to get the meter fixed/replaced a.s.a.p..

Meter's not expensive to have replaced, I've got four zones separately metered in my house for budgeting/sublet purposes.

so whats the damage on a new meter? I think mine is stuffed in the other direction, in that it is running fast.

the meter is owned by the EP methinks.?..and yes I am concerned that they will do some estimate +++Will have another chat this week.

The SIL had a power line put into her 2nd house on her farm ...the contractor did a disgusting job of the poles etc...most of 'em held up by thin guy wires! Half the poles had no insulators on the brackets. Unfortunately I told her to complain and get it all fixed as it was dangerous....

Next week she gets a visit from EPA man charging her with stealing electric..fined 20kbt.

.....turns out the contractor direct connected the power lines ( not through the meter) took a photo and showed EPA and told 'em she had done it!!! Who knows if it was an EPA or.... don't suppose she got a receipt.....makes ya wanna #$%^!!!!

Smash it with a hammer and get a new one. You are already in line for a couple of very large over estimates already. Give it a smack to crack the glass and report that. They will then replace it and you will not get the surcharges. I am certain my is the other way as well. I wonder if the meters actually get tested prior to installation,

The penalties are severe if he gets caught doing that.

Dont get caught then - only have to crack the glass

Give it a slight tap or two, no damage. I had the same problem and did this and it started up again. Nobody was any the wiser and I wished that I had left it a bit longer.

Might work as sometimes it can be the slightest impediment for it to stop functioning (cockroach sh-te?)

Happened to us before. I figured if the guy who comes by every month to manually check the meters and print off the bills didn't care, neither did I. If anything, he's the one who should be reporting a faulty meter, not me. For about 5 months we paid 41 baht/month for electric. I'm guessing paperwork / administration fee.

After 5 months, we just started getting normal bills again, and nobody has said anything.

hmmm..I will give it a tap or two today..if nothing happens will report it again and again.....maybe use the apathy to our advantagecoffee1.gif

Had same situation happen to me. Seems the meter you have is busted. MEA/PEA (Municipal/provincial electric authority) personnel will come to replace your meter. Then the pain starts again.
