In case I one day have the misfortune of meeting an alien, I would like to be well-prepared. Before I am subjected to depraved experiments and eaten alive I will try to talk my way to survival. The optimal words to use probably depend on the gender of the fearsome attacker. As for knowing whether an alien is male or female, no idea but if I close encounter one of the third gender I'll let you know.
