I'm looking for some quality pizza in BKK (as opposed to Pizza Company, Pizza Hut, etc.) So far the only suggestion I have is from a few years ago to try Paparazzi's restaurant on the second floor of Chateau Du Bangkok on Soi Ruam Rudee (a five minute taxi from Nana Skytrain). Anyone been there recently or have any of their own suggestions? Thanks.

My favorite is Duilio's on Sukhumvit 49 - about 100 meters North of Suk.

Delicious, rich-flavor mozzarella, not processed cheese.

Wood oven baked until edges are just crispy.

Also try the contadina salad - served warm.

Duillio's have their own delivery service and they also deliver via Food-by-Phone.

Why does this Italian restaurant have a Hindi/Sanskrit name? Are they Krishna devotees (literally 'cowherder', Govinda is a devotional name for Krishna) or something? I've always wondered about it.

I believe they are. I haven't been there since they moved out of Sukumwit plaza, but their logo, at that time, was like one of Hare Krishna stickers.

Limoncello on Suk Soi 11 is OK. They throw the pizzas in the Italian manner which is entertaining for a while. They use a wood fired brick oven. And, the choices on the menu are numerous. However, they seem to undercook the crust a little for my taste. And, the tables are a bit close together.

Ciao at the Oriental is very good , Giusto in Sukhumvit Soi 23 , Pan Pan on Sukhumvit Soi 33 , you can also try a new place called ViaVai or VaiVia on Sukhumvit Soi 8. Their Pizza is good.

Not sure about Zanotti or Gianni if they offer Pizza , but their Italian Food is good.

With over 100 Italian Places you will find something you like.

i'll have to take your word about bella napoli, cos next door is bella toscana and the (Italian) owner told me that Bella Napoli wasn't a true Italian restaurant and no Italians ever went there to eat!!

well, maybe he would say that wouldn't he!

A decent pizza can also be had in Kao Sahn, the place is called "Rannee's" and is a bit out of the way, so ask around...

may be true of what bkkmei said about Bella Napoli , but the pizza is good n you might have to wait outside for a place.

One problem with this thread is that Italian pizza and American pizza are very different, and a good American pizza is far superior, but no one is pointing out which is which.

Italian pizza reminds me of putting canned tomato sauce and a slice of American cheese on an English muffin and putting it in the toaster oven like we did when we were kids. Simular taste, but no cigar!

The Italian place in Soi33 has a good one and you can tell them to burn it for a nice crispy taste.

Also the Landmark has not a bad one, they also cook it well but they put to much cheese on.

Soi 31 is like 'little Italy'. Besides Bella Napoli and Bella Toscana there are at least a couple of other Italian places specialising in pizza, including San Remo, which in some people's minds equals Bella Napoli. I don't think either one of those places has such great pizza.

Ulysses G, have you ever been to Italy? I was there last year and ate lots of very good pizza, in fact among the tastiest I've ever had. Super fresh ingredients, good balance of flavours and most of all Italian flour. I've also eaten pizza in NYC and elsehwhere in the US, not bad either. In NY the best pizzas - for me - are those made by Lebanese, Algerian and Tunisian immigrants, some of whom spent time learning the pizza trade in France or Italy. To state that American pizza is 'far superior' is like saying your palate is far superior to everyone else's -- and no one here believes that. If you prefer American pizza, OK no problem.

The best pizzas I've tasted are those made in Provence in southern France, which was once part of the Roman empire. eg., Avignon, Orange, Aix en Provence, etc.

Actually, I know there are loads of people waiting outside Bella napoli. Did try it once - it was OK.

I agree, Bella Napoli is just OK, definitely seems over-rated. It's mainly Thais that think it's something special.

I passed San Remo a couple months ago and it was still open. Did it close recently? I can see why it might have closed, it wasn't getting much biz.

San Remo closed about a month ago. It's still an Italian restaurant but I'll have to check the new name next time I pass by.

Thanks for the recos, Emilio. I haven't been to L'Opera in years, it must be one of the oldest Italian eateries in Bangkok now.

A lot of non-Italians say La Piola has some of the city's most authentic homemade Italian cuisine. What do you think? I haven't been to their new location between sois 11 and 13.

It does have a good amount of cheese, I am sure you can ask to add more, thy are willing to please, cashier is one of the owners wife ans nice and sweet..........went today, better than than my first time, um, eating there

I tried Pizza Mania, Basilico and Scoozi and I have to say the best Italian pizza I found was Scoozi. The Italian is much more superior to American pizza because it uses fine ingredients. The most important components of the pizza are perfected by Italians. The Italian crust is close to bread while the American crust is close to cake. The sauce mainly depends on the quality of produce but the American style is more artificial. I think it is pointless to mention the cheese because Italy and Europe in general have a world-class cheese industry. Scoozi for example gives you the choice of 5 types of high quality imported cheese, wider choice of vegetables and abundant meat varieties including rarities.

I would agree that Scoozi offers decent pizza and is for me, the pic of the outlets that deliver. I used to like Pizzanotti but Scoozi is, to my taste, better. I bet some of the better Italian restaurants in town also do some great pizzas.

Italian pizza is second rate compared to a good New York pizza. The crust is the most delicious thing about an American pizza - soft and bready, full of flavor, with a crisp outer layer.

Italian crust is much like Jewish unleavened bread - a mazza - a tasteless, cracker.

The toppings on both types are good however.

Re number 3 above, their "quattro formagi" is to die for.

Scoozi's pizza are just ok. However they are overpriced for what you get. It's a chain that offers terrible customer service. They don't care about their customers! Pizza delivery is often very late and cold. Many other better choices here. Basilico, Bella Napoli, L'Opera are ones that I've tried and find to be very nice.
