Soi 31 is like 'little Italy'. Besides Bella Napoli and Bella Toscana there are at least a couple of other Italian places specialising in pizza, including San Remo, which in some people's minds equals Bella Napoli. I don't think either one of those places has such great pizza.

Ulysses G, have you ever been to Italy? I was there last year and ate lots of very good pizza, in fact among the tastiest I've ever had. Super fresh ingredients, good balance of flavours and most of all Italian flour. I've also eaten pizza in NYC and elsehwhere in the US, not bad either. In NY the best pizzas - for me - are those made by Lebanese, Algerian and Tunisian immigrants, some of whom spent time learning the pizza trade in France or Italy. To state that American pizza is 'far superior' is like saying your palate is far superior to everyone else's -- and no one here believes that. If you prefer American pizza, OK no problem.

The best pizzas I've tasted are those made in Provence in southern France, which was once part of the Roman empire. eg., Avignon, Orange, Aix en Provence, etc.

I don't eat cheese, so the pizzas in Italy are better for me. Only about half of them typically have cheese.

However, I can certainly see why many people think that American pizza's are superior. From my experience, a good pizza parlor (not Pizza Hut, Godfather's, etc) takes more care with the ingredients and offer a wider range of them as well. So if you like pizzas with about a million toppings, the US pizzas are hard to beat.

I do appreciate a good US pizza, but I am rather enamored with going into a small Italian restaurant and getting a simple tomato and fresh basil pizza.

But I can also see your point about Provence. I've had some pretty good pizzas there, too. I had one in Les Baux which was simply great!

The Best?

italianfesta10_0.jpg

Made by Massima Ducci, managing director of Cibus, the company that imports Itailan goods to Thailand.

He had a shop in the Paragon and it was awesome. Lot's of Italian people hanging out too.

Now, he is relocated to the Sukhumvit/Asoke junction next to the BTS.

Look for the sign :

Pizza Romana

That looks good! The only issue I have with the thin crust italian style ones are they don't deliver well - great at the restaurant when they come straight out of the oven!

I have not been to his new place yet since they relocated from the Paragon.

Please report back here if you try it.

Here is a MAP - tn

The Deli shop he ran in the Paragon supermarket also served up other Italian dishes and he had an Italian delicatessan.

Sauces, cheese, porcini mushrooms, salami Parma ham, pasta etc.

One bite of the pizza transported me directly to Rome. Heaven.

This gives a decent overview as well. I'll visit next month.....

One more vote for the new Pizza Romana, conveniently located right between Asok BTS and MRT.

Now I stop there every day on my way home to pick up some delicious salami pizza. Their ingredients are top notch!

I hope everything goes well for this place!

I found the place to be nice and bright, good service and reasonably priced. However, the pizza in my opinion is not so good. Very good if you like nice bread though, as that was what the base was like, a thick slice of sour dough bread. While if I would have asked for bread it would have been good, I found it much too dough heavy for a pizza. I asked the lady behind the counter what type of pizza it was and she replied "from Rome". I never had pizza like that in Rome, but I didn't spend years there so maybe I just never came across that style.

One problem with this thread is that Italian pizza and American pizza are very different, and a good American pizza is far superior, but no one is pointing out which is which.

Italian pizza reminds me of putting canned tomato sauce and a slice of American cheese on an English muffin and putting it in the toaster oven like we did when we were kids. Simular taste, but no cigar! annoyed.gif

Exactly, most italian food is quite boring and bland....

I like creating my own foods and recipes, mexican, thai and italian make a great fusion food.

I also like Chicago Pizza better than the crispy crapizza, although a good Calzone takes precision and is quite the treat if cooked properly, anyone ever seen one here in LOS?

I had lunch at Pala yesterday and agree with much of what you say. We had two slices of pizza....a veggie option and the salami offering.

The salami seemed to have more of a pizza style base....I'm not sure if they are using different ones for each pizza.

Two slices and a couple of soft drinks for 200 Baht....not bad price wise.

Some pics to follow....

there is a new.."new York" pizza style places at Mega Bangna next door to Wine Connection..... I thought it was an annex at first...I digress.

For 350 Baht I got a large Philly Cheese Steak Pizza, and my wife and I and a couple from the UK thought it was quite easily one of the best pizzas we had ever had.. not just in Thailand... The ribs served were fantastic(and I love me some ribs) and also the stuffed pork chop went down well..

I'm going back tomorrow so will post the name

Bella Napoli on Sukh. Soi 31.

Real Italian and the place got 3 Italian owners.

Usually, they do not accept reservations, so you might have to wait outside until a table is free.

With you on this one. They do offer delivery through ChefsXP though.

Perhaps I should point out the pizza place the Thais *love*. It tastes incredible and is always full despite now moving to a bizarre location.

I forget its name but-- concentrate-- is situated near Khao San, across from Sanam Luang on the North side of the off road on the road that leads to Phra Pinklao and running on to Pra Arthit. It is next to a Korean hostel. Walk 3 minutes from khao san. It is the road with the National Gallery.

There is a cool place at Sanam Luang on that Night Basar.

Its call VIVA Pizza Bangkok or Viva on fire and they make a great pizza

Start with 59 THB for a 8 inch Pizza in a real wood fired oven.

They use real wood, not this slow burning black wood or so.

In there Menu was a internetpage, just look in Google for Viva Pizza Bangkok.

I found them through Foursquare

just go to Foursquare and search for, there is also a map: PIZZA VIVA วีว่า พิซซ่า ร้านพิซซ่า

Try it, its worth it. And next to it you can buy DVDs for 40 THB

I think it is one of the cheapest place in town
