my friend went visiting his parents and forgot to request a re-entry permit. His visa and work permit having been renewed, his previous multi entry was not valid anymore. Nobody noticed until he came back and received a 30day entry stamp...

I am not asking people to tell me it is stupid, we already know or guess what could or should or assume.

I am asking simply has anyone lived this before, was there an easy solution? is there a risk on the current work permit? Please comment only if you know don't guess.

the wife has lived it. No easy way around it. You'll need to trot off to Penang in the next couple of weeks to get a new non-immigrant B and start the process all over again.

Sad but true.

A new B-visa is a must. You might be able to extend the work permit if it hasn't expire already when you are back with the new visa.
