danone
2 million stateless people to get Thai citizenship Published on Jan 10 , 2006 The Cabinet Tuesday approved a plan to grant Thai citizenship to around two million stateless people on Thai soil. But they will not be entitled to the government's Bt30-per-medical visit scheme. Deputy government spokesman Danuporn Punnakanta said the plan was aimed at tackling problems that arose from the fact that stateless people had no legal status and rights in Thailand. The plan will cover various groups of stateless people including children studying in Thailand-based schools as well as immigrants who have been living in Thailand for the minimum of 10 years straight, he said. does that mean people living in thailand for more than 10 yrs become thai citizens? could it apply to farangs? rishi
... could it apply to farangs? If this really will become reality - that cabinet has my full support to grant that citizenship only to the truly needy. I'm not sure whether the Palestenians have their own state or not - but what other farang could be stateless? (Excluded those, who might feel stateless because they are highly wanted in their home country).

I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch: stateless = of no discernable nationality. Scouse.

Dude, 10 years straight means no travel out of thailand (don't mean visa run)

I think a point could be made for those hapless individuals that unfortunately hail from Texas....
