Hi guys,

We are just about to apply for a UK fiance visa for my chinese fiance. I am acting as her sponsor and i have already written the cover letter and signed it and posted it along with all the other documents required by TNT courier to China.

My question however is this, I wrote the original letter in a bit of a hurry and i would like to submit a fresh covering letter with more detail about our plans for a wedding etc.

Now, it is going to be too late in the day to send her an original covering letter so i was wondering if i type up a letter and send it to her as a word attachment via email, will this be acceptable by UKBA? given that it will not have my actual signature on the letter?

Many thanks in advance for your advice.

This is actually a forum for Thai related applications, etc, but your question is a general one, so I'll try to give you an answer.

An original covering letter is best, but if you sign the letter, scan it to your fiance(e) to be submitted, it should be okay. The reasoning for this is that, if the application was refused only because a scanned letter was submitted, then you would win any appeal by submitting the original to confirm the document. Certainly, here in Thailand, we submit scanned covering letters.

On a related subject, when is the application going to actually be submitted ? You know that the settlement rules change ( the financial requirements, amongst other things ) on the 9th July, and any application submitted on or after the 9th July will require the new evidence of income, etc ? If you have prepared an application under the pre - 9th July requirements, and don't submit until the 9th ( or after), then the application might fail.

Thank you for your reply Visas Plus. My fiance is putting her application in this Monday as we are aware of the new rules to settlement.
