Tourist Visa Extention A Quick Question

Featured Replies

I have to go to Khon Kaen immigration to extend my tourist visa and I was wondering if anyone knows how long this normally takes. I'm trying to fit it in around my gf's work. I should be able to get there at 8.30 when they open which may or may not help.

Many thanks.

it is routine and should not take longer then 15 minutes, minus waiting time for your turn.

If you are first in the queue you will be out before 9.00.

Get in there quick and get a ticket from the machine.

Don't forget your passport size photo.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like this should be quite easy (famous last words I know). I'm going to go to Khon Kaen on Sunday so I can get to the office early .

My gf asked if i could find a website for the immigration office in Khon Kaen so I tried but couldn't find one so she tried searching in Thai. I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised that she found a site written in Thai, the language spoken by almost nobody apart from the 69 million people who don't need the immigration office. She did find a welcome page where you could change to English although this only seemed to effect the main menus so I could find the download page. Strangely in the space for the passport photo it gives the 6cm by 4 cm size in Thai even the numbers are in Thai which is odd as Thailand seems to use arabic numbers even on official documents. Under that is "photograph" just in English so maybe there isn't a Thai word for that. Under that is the size again but this time the "cm" has been translated into English but the numbers are still in Thai. It does make you wonder if these people are up to the job.

Thanks again.

Don't worry just bring the photos and your passport and 1,900 baht.

They are quite friendly.

Just to let you know I got the extension yesterday. As was said fairly straight forward just the usual worries while you're waiting wondering what they're thinking. I'd done the photo with spares just in case and I downloaded the form as well and filled that in. I mentioned in an earlier post about the size only being in Thai. The forms they have there have it in English as well so it's just the web page hasn't been updated. hen we got there there were just a couple of back office peoplr there so we had to wait until someone arrived before my documents could be checked and the ticket machine turned on. I was given another form to fill in but I'm not sure why as as far as I can remember all it asked for was my name and possibly nationality plus my reason for wanting the extension which is all on the form anyway.

One problem I did have was passport photocopies. I think my gf said that the immigration website asked for a copy of the photo page which we did. We went on Sunday afternoon and stayed at the Boss Grand Tower hotel as it's cheap and being new still in good condition. Whilst I was on my laptop I checked a few other posts on various sites just to make sure we had everything. A few mentioned 2 photos (didn't need them but had extra just to be safe) a copy of the page with the visa stamp or a photocopy of the page where the tourist visa is stamped in your passport. We decided to get a copy of the page with the big red visa stamp which the hotel did for us for nothing which I thought was good as they're a budget hotel. It turns out that they want the one with the entry stamp. I don't know what happens if you apply for another extension if you have a multiple entry visa

I'm not sure how easy it would be if I were on my own as my gf did most of the talking (as she usually does).
