People suggested to spare water for use in this year's drought

BANGKOK: -- People in all parts of Thailand are suggested to spare water to be used in this year's drought.

Director General of the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning Thirawatra Kulavanich said this year's drought was expected to be more severe than last year.

Therefore, people in all parts of the country should spare water, from now on, to be well-prepared for any water crisis in the dry season this year, he suggested.

Those in the agricultural, industrial and service sectors should also spare water for their businesses, he added.

Preparations for sufficient and clean containers of water are also suggested.

Members of the general public should also save water in their daily consumption, said the department's chief.

According to a cabinet resolution in Februay 2004, January 7-14 of every year is designated as the week for public campaigns, surveys, maintenance and preparations of water containers across the country.

So can we assume that they will also legislate a "waterless" Songkran? :o

Penzman - What are you trying to say - they must be wrong because they didn't predict the floods so let's keep wasting water?

Perhaps I don't know much about weather, but I DO remember them predicting flash floods! (not so far in advance of them predicting droughts now though)

The NE has been getting drier every year for the last 20. Cement factories churn through water and for the rest of Thailand's water consumption has neve been thought twice about by the average person on mains supply..... yeah I reckon with global warming progressing at an ever faster rate they are making a pretty safe bet!!!

What's your point?

Lake Mabprachan in Pattaya is already starting to go down. And it didn't get filled up to start with!

They are however putting the pipeline to Bang Phra reservoir (so we can steal Penzman's water :o ) in as we write!

Bang Phra should be hooked up to the river (forgot the name) already, so we should get some boost from that!

The new pipe line is sucking water from the Ban Pakhong river :o just before it dumps into the Gulf where it is heavily polluted with all the cr@p comig from upstream... A quick fix solution that will contaminate the Bang Phra reservoir which was adequate a few years back before the development boom.

My point is : predicting a drought is an easy way out of saying that water management is not sync with rising demand.

Who allows all this construction of new houses and water gulping factories to go on without knowing if they'll even be able to at least flush toilets? Like someone said before, "Welcome to my 4 million baht house where you can't shower part of the year".
