Leaving With Incancelled Work Permit

Featured Replies

My employment finishes on the 25th this month, so does my visa and work permit. On the 26th I'm on a one way flight home. I have a few questions I'd be grateful for any advice.

What I'd like to do is get on the plane pay a 1 day overstay and go home. But I have heard (both) immigration won't let you out the country with an uncancelled work permit and they will if your flying out. I don't know which is true.

Thanks

What is most important is your extension of stay has been properly canceled - immigration is not concerned with work permit as people often leave with a valid work permit and return to continue using it. So if not on a 90 day visa issue best to visit immigration with a letter of employment ending to cancel extension to be sure of easy exit.

So could I go to Chaeng Wattana on the 25th? Or would I have to go to the immigration office that originally issued it, up country.

Office that issued would be the office to cancel.

if the W.P.and visa expire on the 25th and she's flying on the 26th.........they've already expired........they need to be cancelled????

Thank for the help.

Not being able to cancel in BKK is crazy, in fact the whole system is ridiculous.

One more query, So I cancel my visa extension at immigration 6 days before I leave, pay 1900 baht and get six more days. When I go to immigration will they ask me show a same day cancelled work permit? Or could I get the visa cancelled first and the work permit second? As the two offices are at different ends of the province and the immigration has no public transport going the at all.

Correction: That should be Labour Office has no public transport going there. Immigration does 5 hour round trip, so impossible to do both same day.

Sorry to query the edict of one of the foremost luminaries on this forum, but I don't quite understand this. If the OP's "visa" and WP expire on the 25th and he's leaving on the 26th, there's nothing to cancel, surely? Or if he had an extension beyond that date (and how could he) then my experience when I wanted to change from a 'B' visa based on a WP to an 'O' retirement extension was that the WP had to be cancelled by the Labour Office before Immigration would terminate the permission to stay.

I would have thought he could leave and pay a 1-day overstay,

If his extension of stay actually ends then all should be OK. Normally extensions and work permits are not tied together anymore. But it was/is not clear exactly what status is as he calls it a visa.

Edit. Perhaps I was unclear but the point was that some have been blocked from exit at border but only for not doing the cancel of extension - not for work permit issues as poster seemed to believe.

Sorry, getting a little confused.

The work permit and entension on a single entry non Imm B both expire on the 25th.

I fly out on the 26th

So do they need cancelling?

no, they don't. They'll have already expired......don't worry, just pay 500 baht and fly......bon voyage biggrin.png

As said if they have expired no issue - and if leaving by air there will not be any 500 baht charge to pay.
