Non Imm O Marriage

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am a UK passport holder and have been married for four years (married to Thai citizen in Thailand) and have never stayed in Thailand for more than 30 days (once I got a weeks extention) and I am planning on getting the marriage visa.

My job is 10 weeks on/10 weeks off in the maritime industry.

Can I get a marriage visa and still satisfy the requirements for residency down the line if I am working abroad six months of the year and multiple entries and exits every 10 weeks?

If not the marriage visa would there be a better choice of visa if I intend to live in Thailand? I like the idea of getting a bank account etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Shug

As you seem to be talking about a one year extension of stay rather than a visa (and that is the only entry that counts for PR application) the initial requirement is application during last 30 days of a 90 day non immigrant O visa entry. You will never be able to apply. And you must be here 4 weeks or more later to obtain the actual extension. As without payment of tax in Thailand you would not likely qualify for PR anyhow it is not a great loss.

What you need is a multi entry non immigrant O visa from a Consulate - this allows unlimited number of entry/stay up to 90 days each for one year from date of issue. Currently the best location to obtain (no financial requirement) is Savannakhet with marriage certificate, copy of wife ID card and home register. KL in Malaysia is also good but will require proof of 100k in an account somewhere. Other Consulates in the region may require up to 400k. You home country likely would not require any financials.
