30 Day Voa Extension Question

Featured Replies

Everyone,

I have a Canadian Passport, flew in from Phnom Penh, Cambodia on July 4, 2012 received a 30 day VOA. I am thinking of going to Chiang Mai and eventually will do a visa run to Myanmar before my VOA expires.

I have two questions:

1. If I have a 30 VOA and want to do an extension do I get 15 days or 30 days at a land border?

2. My VOA Expires on Aug 2, 2012 if I get an extension let's say on July 29, 2012 when does the extension start adding the 15 or 30 days? Is it Aug 2, 2012 + 15 or 30 days OR July 29 + 15 or 30 days?

Thanks for your help

Dan

You don't have a Visa On Arrival. You have a Visa Waiver, aka Visa Exempt. You can extend it for 7 days at any Immigration office for 1,900 baht.

If you want more time than that, you will need to exit Thailand and re-enter. At a land crossing you will get a 15-day visa waiver. If you arrive by air you'll get 30 days again.

So I would get a 15 day extension if I did a Visa run to Myanmar.

Is it from the day I do the 15 day extension or from the day the Visa Exempt Expires Aug 2, 2012 in this case?

So it would be Aug 17, 2012?

Thanks for your help

No you would not receive an extension - you would receive a new visa exempt entry and by land that entry will be 15 days. Day of entry is day one.
