It sounds like a prediction about what could happen; nothing more, nothing less.

There seems to be some differences in how what was said is being reported as per the following tweets from bangkokpundit

1. Bkk Post reports Korkaew as saying "I am not just making a threat". In Thai, Matichon, Thai Rath, & Kom Chad Luek all have K saying

2. ตนไม่ได้ขู่แต่เป็นการประเมินจากข้อมูลหลายส่วน (I am not making a threat, but assessing [what will happen] from different information)

3. Bkk Post - link removed -Thai Rath http://goo.gl/A8avs Matichon http://goo.gl/UBWbQ KCL http://goo.gl/Te32V

4. The Nation has headline of Korkaew "warns" which is fair interpretation, but they don't quote him as making a threat

Thanks for sharing. From the texts here, it is clear that the context in which the comments were delivered makes a difference in the interpretation or intended meaning.

Yes I;m sure you want us to believe that Korkaew spoke with all the best legal and honorable intentions and was misinterpreted,... You want us to believe....., Well you would wouldn't you

Korkeaw is a hideous creature. Even his red shirt chums up in Khon Khen kicked him out when he turned up to promote a friend for election there. "Toady" is what they called him.

Translation of parts of Korkaew's speech, posted by a Thai friend on Facebook:

Red shirt core leader Korkaew told red shirs to be ready to fight, if verdict from constitutional court doesn't turn to be result that they want. "say farewell to families & fight" ....he also suggested that he & co would file treason charge against constructional court judges & would take them hostages.

first, I personally don't give a rip what you believe.

second, there is a difference in the meaning of line #1 & line #2 above.

Knowing the bastion of quality reporting that The Nation is, I looked for other references in order to better understand the context of this person's statements. But as I am not fluent in Thai, the options for finding information on this are limited.

Thailand doesn't have civil wars. Remember the hierarchical structure: monarchy, army, government, people. Its not in the majorities interest that this structure changes, unless you want to start a new dynasty?

And a new dynasty is exactly what the "man from afar" has as his ultimate goal.

The first president of Thailand as his son said (drunk)

it looks like all the replies are from yellow shirt suporters and going on previous things that have happened in the last few years a civil would be no suprise

If you think only yellow shirts would find the scum that is Korkeaw to be detestable and condemnable, think again.

Anyone who never believes Thailand will eventually be in a civil war should note there are many in the PTP and UDD with these views. Fact is the Red Terrorist leadership should be rounded up and furthermore Bangkok shouldnt be building barriers around the city to prevent possible Water flooding but it needs check points and the army to prevent the so called "thai democrats" getting close to any legal or democrat institution, The Reds are no more democratic than Stalin or Kim jong-il ever were.

no civil war. The hardcore reds are 3-5000 commies and no one able to fight (they may fight for their imported french wine). than there are paid thugs and as it seems some mercenary. That is pretty bad but not a civil war.

Even the Thaksin supports don't want to vote for him without payment and even less they want to risk their life.

full scale civil war not likely, but 3 to 5 thousand who would take up a gun to fight is a massive underestimation i believe. Mass manipulation and a belief that it is now or never can change people very fast.

It doesn't help at all that the courts hand out crazy judgments such as those convicted of burning down a bank in Khon Kaen for long sentences when the damage was minor.

The legal system has made a rod for its own back by continually meting out ludicrous sentences to the poor and preserving the rich from punishment. And this goes universally for all sides of politics.

A difficult situation for the judges. ''Be dammed if you do and be Dammed if you don't.'' I am of of the opinionthat the verdict will be posponed for a time, however there has to be a verdict at some stage so until the we must wait and see.

Regarding the comments made by Korkeaw, they really are indicative of someone bent on causing as much trouble as possible either by use of a revolutionary rousing rhetoric or perhaps also by virtue of armed personnel.

In the first case little to worry about. however the second case assumes a more sinister face. Just who might gain from an armed insurrection, who has the money to finance such an action and who has ambitions and delusions of grandeur ?

Possibly there are a number of ''interested parties who would indeed benefit from an armed inssurection, wannabee political dynasties and of course the military and of course big business interests.

Sad to note that as of this moment in time not one litle peep of condemnation from any quarter of the current maladministration concerning the inflamatory comments made by one of its M.P.s.

Perhaps that gives us a hint as to just who might stand to gain from civil disorder. however if ,''push comes to shove those interested parties may well find that their charisma is dead and Mr Somchai and Mrs Porntip are not going to battle it out on the streets just to enslave themselves again to a new political dynasty

However the comments made by Korkeaw bring to mind Churchills comment concerning liquid body waste and flatulence.

I am not too worried about the outcome of this case.

there will be no civil war in Thailand, nobody is starving or dying. People only put their lives on the line if their lives are in danger. Besides theres too much money from foreign companies and thais in position of influence losing too much money if war broke out. You might get paid skirmishes but one plea from the privy council and then threats by the army would quell this. which Thai fathers do you know of who would sacrifice themselves for some politicians?

Get out from your paranoid computers and tell me who would sacrifice their lives and families for Korkaew or Jaturaporn? They'll happily cause aruckus for a free feed and 200 baht, but you could never mobilise half the population all because some millionaires aren't getting their way.

When was the last civil war in Asia? Whose living conditions in Thailand are so desperate that they're prepared to die to give their family a better life?

As you say you're not fluent in Thai and find options for getting the right information limited, let me tell you and please listen carefully I'll only say this once:

Pheu Thai party list MP and UDD leader k. Korkaew is making threatening noises. Noises of a kind which seem very undemocratic, but may fit someone who's a leader of the "United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship". To emphasize and unfortunately not the first and only time:

Didn’t the foreign ministers told the Thai government to stop the scams. This is biggest crap I have heard. Most of Thais are busy working and struggling and some scamming they don’t have time for Civil anything

I hope you're right but did you not see the thousands of people barricading themselves inside Rajaprasong, many of them armed, willing to fight? Of course most people were unarmed but they were all willing to put themselves on the line, that's why they stayed put when it was getting ugly. They were all listening and cheering the hate speeches on stage. Many of them cheered when grenades were fired. They could have disbanded when the "leaders" gave themselves up but they didn't.

And let's not forget Sah Deang and his outrageous militarism!

That, in my mind, was not a million miles away from a civil war. I still find it hard to believe it really happened. And yes, this was all because a few millionaires weren't getting their way as you put it. 90 people dead. None of what you said correlates at all with what happened in 2010.

If I hadn't seen that then I would agree with you. But the rhetoric is increasing again - it could be far worse this time. I hope I'm wrong.

sigh...if you can't distuingish the difference between a paid demonstration and acivil war then you and me occupy different worlds I'm afraid my friend.

Follow your hunch mate and stock up on tins of baked beans, and the moment before my dear old 92year old neighbour slaughters me in the cross fire with her ak47, I'll accept it if youd say I told you so.lets just agree to disagree on this on

I wish you well

How can this man issue such patently obvious blatant threats to the Judiciary, and be allowed to get away with it?

In any other decent law abiding Countries he would be forced to stand down from the Party, and would probably lose his political career forever.

Ok, thanks - it's been a while since I've been patronised quite so heavily, that was refreshing.

Regardless of whether it was paid or not (and it mostly was), heavy weapons, snipers, 90 people dead in the street is not trivial. Don't dismiss it so lightly.

I've been here a long time and I'm not an idiot.

Obstructing democracy and the people's will will lead to bloodshed as has been witnessed around the world. Let the spilt blood stain the hands of the judges and the elite who are only interested in self preservation of their priveleged positions.

Supporting democracy doesn't mean that you can ignore the law.

but that is the point, isn't it? The gov't was following the law.

The court jumped in with 2 feet rather than waiting. This would make it appear like the court has an agenda in this debate.

Were they following the law?

We'll find out on Friday.

we'll find out friday, in a completely fair ruling of course.

i have my predictions.

What would happen if they held a war and nobody came? More realistically, if the red shirt leaders declare war and as soon as it gets hot, nearly everybody finds someplace better to be?

Be careful what you ask for, you might get it.

My prediction is, a slap on the wrist to the politicians (ie don't have wholesale changes to the constitution), and no banning of parties.
