This years crop is exceptionally fine.

It was a hot year, they started maturing early.

# 1, just picked

# 2, after three days drying, ready to eat, sweet & moist, better that any store bought.

# 3, the trees

Enjoy !

  • 1 month later...

Six years & up for initial flowering.

Very large trees.

Need Female & Male trees.

Hand pollination is the only way to get reliable results.

You will not know gender until the first flowering.

Professionals plant females from side shoots, not available here.

PakCheong station has a small grove, if you ask, they might help.

I can send you seeds or a couple of seedlings.

thanks for the offer but given the difficulty and the long time span, i think it would be a waste of yours and my time to try

thanks anyhow

The question that had to be asked, will you sell some of it and send to Bkk?

A date lover.

Ordinarily I would, you are a little late, it is the end of the first crop.

We had many kilos; they are immensely popular around here, not much left.

A second crop is still more than a month away, the dates are smaller but should taste OK.

I remember see in programme on the on BBC years ago. Even in the Sahara, they would chop off the male tree's flower stem, and go around the female trees pollinating that way.

That is correct, I collect the male pollen than gently brush it on the females.

Female flower in the foreground.
