Continuing the Monks & monkey theme, can someone please remind me which turn off from highway 22 on the Sak Nakhon - Udon road for the temple which has all the monkeys. It is not the Khymer ruins at Phra That Phu Pek rather a newer style one. The one I mean is also about 15 kms from the highway and has a large car park with the monkeys; some fantastic panoramic views from there and more from the temple. Access to the temple is along a natural outcrop of rocks which continues around the top of the hill. I remember seeing German Shepherd dogs there many years ago which the Monks cared for.

Any info appreciated.

Are you thinking of the temples on the hill outside Song Dao which is the turning at Sawang Daen Din. It sounds like you describe, has monkeys but not always seen, it has great panoramic views, you go up a rocky outcrop to get to it and the road goes round that, the temples are not old. The name is something like What Tham Phuan in roman script. If this is the one you turn off route 22 at SDD and go to Song Dao from where there are two roads up to the hilltop temples. there are a few and a museum. If its's not its a nice trip up anyway. Hope this helps.

That one sounds similar but the one I want is on the Sakhon Nakhon side of Phang Khon and not as far as Sawang. However, if I can't find mine, I will maybe take a look at your suggestion.

Thanks anyway; it's just for a break while driving to Nong Khai so maybe I will still try to find both.

Disappointing yours is the only reply considering so many people visit the one I want.

I know only a smaller but nice mountain cliff temple south east from Sawang Den Ding with a friendly head monk.

Southeast from Sawang Den Ding.

But really impressive was for me

-Wat Phu Tok-

between Nong Khai and Sakhon Nakhon Google!

I did not make it to the top! ;-)

Thanks for that but still not the one. I also know Phu Tok but cannot even start the climb but may try again when we stay at a jungle resort a few miles from there in October. I love that area and of course Keung Khan has 2 new hotels now.
