Help Please - Air Conditioner Remote Not Working

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi All,

After some help please.

We have an air con unit in the bedroom (make is Yashima), and the remote has stopped working...we change the batteries regularly and the contact points are not rusted up.

We have looked in the usual places to try and find a replacement - (Threpprasit Road market, amongst others) with no success.

My question is..... Does anyone have suggestions where we can try and find a replacement (old electronic stores etc.) or failing that, somewhere that may be able to attempt fixing it.

Photos attached.

Thanks

Peter

There is a Remote Control shop on Theprasit Road, opposite side to the night market, a bit further up the road,, my Partner says he is sure you will get one from there, they stock them for everything........ Sorry i do not know the number or name of the shop, maybe you could ask someone around that area.....

As said, the electrical shop in the basement of Tuk Com on South Road.

Also, while you're in the area, go to Soi Buakaow which is just 1 minute walk away and the daytime market on the left side as you walk into Soi Buakaow has quite a large selection of 2nd hand remote controls for everything from TVs to air con. Good luck.

Power Buy - Central Festival or Near Foodland/Klang >>> They have 2 or 3 universal models for around 300 Baht which work for just about anything. They are programmable for your air-con unit. Bring the old one and model of air-con to be sure.... Try basement Tukom, but I had several fixed there and they gave up again shortly after.JL.thumbsup.gif

mmmmmm, I am still looking for a #*@XXing remote for my TCL TV. You'd think the shops that carry these TV sets would know where to get a new remote. (no, the shop under tuk com does not carry them or no "universal" remote at Power Buy.

Did you try the electronic supply shop on Theprasit Road (just west of the gas pumps on the north side)? They had TCL TV remotes. I bought one there. Unfortunately my TCL TV has a newer style with more functions. But that remote worked for basic functions. I finally got the newer style by going to Bic C (Pattaya Tai) and they obtained the newer style (I think they stole it from one of the boxed sets as I had to pay for it in the parking lot)

As mentioned above by pattaya_girl the same electronic supply shop might have the air conditioner remote. You also might try a shop that sells Yashima air conditioners. There's also an air conditioner supply shop further west on Theprasit Road.

When the guy came out to me to fix mine he did his and said, sorry, mai mee.

I asked how to fix it and he went to his truck, got out a controller and hard wired it to the a/c in 15 minutes.

Problem fixed. Of course if ever I need to alter it I just get up, walk over and change the settings.

Simple, cheap and easy.

Theprasit Road is the place, got one there at about 150 baht from memory.

They have hundreds there & will get you out of the shop in 1 minute, very efficient people.

Past the petrol station on the same side, lots of boxes/cartons on the street outside the shop.

Are you sure it is the remote? One of my ACs has twice refused to respond to the remote signal. Upon investigation I found that a rodent had chewed through the AC wires from the receiver.

Are you referring to a small shop that has stereos, amps, speakers, wires, electronics etc with a very narrow counter entry

located just before the petrol station on the left, on Thepprasit going towards Sukumvitt?

If it is this one, then they don't have hundreds of remotes there, in fact they don't display any,

only had a universal remote that they had out the back in their stock area, but not the same as the one

i need to replace.

Or is this another shop?

There is a man who sells every remote possible on theppasit market!

First I would always go to amorn, located basement of tuk com. They could probably fix it, very likely they will have a replacement!

I know it's an old thread, but there's a lot of good information in it so I thought I'd just keep it in one place.

With 4 AC units we're down to one functional remote:

I know I've seen these many places around so they must be fairly common, but I've not been able to locate any so far.

The usual places like Amorn/Tukcom, the electronic shop on Thepprasit road and Thepprasit market didn't have any that worked with my aircons. I tried a couple but they weren't compatible.

Called P-tek mentioned earlier - they say they might have them but they'd be at least 800 baht each or more. Knowing that copy remotes are usually around 2-300 baht and the originals that I had failed awfully fast I'm not in a great hurry to get originals at 3-4 times the price if copies can be found anywhere.

I'm going to be in South Pattaya tomorrow so will check the Buakao market.

Anyone else have any idea where I can find these at a reasonable price?

most 'flea market' (not fresh market) will usually have one stall selling all kinds of electronics, cables, connectors, allsorts, some might even have a specialist remote guy with just one stall selling remotes, with chinese knockoff of the model of your aircon/tv whatever, usually they are labelled with the brand name,

if the brand name on the packaging matches, even if the shape of the remote is different, it will work. most of the time expect to pay more than 300 baht for one.(mind you sometime I have the exact same shape of the model I need, only with the wrong brand name screened on the unit but works too)

Caveat Emptor! most of these placed don't allow returns, so take you old remote and make sure

Amorn, being a brick and motar store is a good dependable choice but the selection might be a bit lower than the specialist guy at the markets, also the sales staff at Amorn will not have the knowledge of what alternatives is workable if the exact model of your remote is not available.

Failing that, the official company will stock parts including remote for your exact model, best to contact an air-conditioner repairman as they would have dealings with the company getting motors, fan blades, control units etc.

I'm not too sure about these places in Pattaya, but in Bangkok, in Seacon Square on Srinakkarin Road, there's at least two stalls selling just remotes, having just successfully found a replacement for my aircon remote there

I've seen some in MBK too, but aren't too sure about the exact location.

Try the night market next to McDonalds opposite Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, that look promising too

I would think that in most cases it is just the infrared transmitter that fails, and assume that it can be replaced as they are quite universal.

There is a place on Khao Talo that has some remotes. Shop on the left about 300 metres or so after Kaho Talo 5. But he is not cheap.

I was quoted 800 for a generic remote and 1500 Baht for a genuine panasonic remote.

Yet of all the places I have visited or the g/f has phoned with the number and make of the air con unit, he is the only place I found to stock them.

I'd be happy to be pointed in the direction of a place that sells cheap remotes for air con too.

I'll try amorn now I've read about it and see how much.

amorn is where I go for my remote needs

Just wanted to pass on a very simple test that everyone can do at home to see if the remote is working.

To do this you will need a digital camera or some sorts. A cell phone with a camera is just fine.

Turn the camera on and aim the remote to the camera and press the button you want to test on the remote and you should now be able to see the light flashing on the remote. The light that comes out of the remote is outside human visible range but the dig camera ccd picks it up and it will look like a white light on the screen. This is a handy way to test of the battery are still good or if the remote is even putting out any light at all with fresh batteries. If the remote is putting out light with fresh batteries and still your device is not reacting to it then the possibility exists that the remote is fine and the ir sensor/circuit in the device is shot.

Thanks Jman It works like a charm. I never knew a camera would work to check it very helpful!

Good News for those who want air con bits n pieces.....

P. Tech on Pattaya Nua. Tel 038424491-3

www.ptechattain.com

Head down Pattaya Nua from Sukhumvit Road. The shop is on the left about 100 metres before Tesco (that is on the right hand side).

Apparently this is the place to go for Air Con spares. Directed there by a sales rep in Super Buy on Pattaya Klang - thank you kind sir. Now you have the phone number, you can check if they have what you want and how much. (We took the name and full model number).

I bought a Panasonic remote there an hour ago. It works fine. 800 Baht as opposed to 1500 on Khao Talo.

The other thing to note is they say if it does not work, bring it back for refund or a different model.

** Before those who say you do not get a refund, it is written on the receipt - If you ask them to :)

Secondly......

Hardware shop on Pattaya Klang almost opposite Foodland. Has remote controls. He is worth a look because his are 450 Baht AND he gives a refund.

** I tried one of his earlier today. It did not work. Took it back and got a refund.

Thirdly .....

Super Buy on Pattaya Klang has a selection of remotes too. Helpful staff who said he did not have our model remote.

Amorn had maybe 3 remotes in. Cheap at 300 / 350 Baht but very poor selection there today.

Just a small update. I found the P. Tech shop on Pattaya Nua and showed them my (broken) remote. After quite a bit of palaver finally I was told that they could order for me, price 1200 baht up.

Later by coincidence I found this post in another thread:

Had the same problem about a year ago with an old Amea aircon remote, eventually located them at this address.

Amena Air conditioner

Address

25/7 Moo 4 Phrayasurent Rd., Bangchan, Klongsamwa Bangkok, BKK 10510 THAILAND

Contact

I called Unico Consumer Products Co, Ltd. +66 2 5171819, Fax: +66 2 5178530 who said they had the remote.

Actual address to buy andcollect remote from was Ram Indra Soi 109 and remote cost 860 baht May 2011

Hope this helps :-)

Had Mrs Conners give them a call, and they could send us one for 850 baht.

I also eventually found the guy at the market on Sukhumvit Road, but no Amena remote controls.

I took a picture of what was there, maybe it can help someone else.
