Where Can I Find Isopure Low Carb Protein Powder In Bangkok?

Just an update on this for anyone else who may be interested...

I checked out two GNCs today to see if they carried (as they generally carry in the US) to only find out that the GNCs here seem to carry mostly GNC-branded products. What was even more interesting was the price of the GNC-branded protein (which is considered to be cheap protein in the US, compared to some of the other premium brands). One container protein (3lb) was about $120 USD--just outrageous. And the GNC protein doesn't even taste good...

Anyway, I went to bodybuilding.com, and they ship to Thailand at a very reasonable rate. I can get three containers (3lb each) for $127 USD plus $43 USD shipping. Not a bad deal I think...

What I don't know is if I'll be hit with a customs charge when it's imported. Anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks

Jacob

There are shops in Bangkok that sell protein and supplements at a price usually 40% of the GNC prices, and only marginally higher than if you bought from Bodybuilding.com. (Bodybuilding.com actually works out more expensive if the order is under around B6,000). The downside is the somewhat limited variety.

However if you're looking for the mainstream stuff such as Dymatize, Gaspari , BSN etc etc, then it makes a lot of sense to buy from one of the Thailand suppliers.

Thanks for the info. I just bought my first two canisters of Dymatize to hold me over. I tried it yesterday. It's good, but not as great as Isopure. Isopure protein doesn't have that bitter taste. Any others that you know of?

Are you basing your judgement of the protein purely on the taste?

Why not get non-flavoured protein? I get pure 80% WPC (manufactured in the US) for 700 baht per kilo delivered free to anywhere in Thailand (from Bangkok). http://www.club-prot...m/whey-protein/ I've been using this for about 2 months already and go through nearly 4kg per month.

When you use unflavoured pure protein you can add your own flavours. It tastes ok without flavouring too. You can also use larger serves without being overpowered with flavours and sweeteners designed for specific gram (usually about 30 gram) serves... or add it to food.

You're wasting your money on all this "designer" stuff with fancy labels.

If you want pure (unflavoured) 90% WPI, there is a Thailand based company which sells it (Thaisupplements.com). The only problem is you have to buy it in 20kg bags, but it works out to 900 baht per kilogram.

tropo, I think isopure comes out to the same price given that a $50 cannister is 6 lbs of protein...if I'm doing the math correctly...however, I am tempted to try non-flavored and make my own flavor...

I did order with bodybuilding.com. I've got a 7 to 20 day delivery time period. Does anyone know if I will be charged VAT? And if so, how much is VAT? And will I have to pay that upon delivery? Go to a post office and pay? How does that work?

Thanks

I used these priced you mentioned in an earlier post to arrive at 1317 baht per kilogram (including shipping).

You said:

"Anyway, I went to bodybuilding.com, and they ship to Thailand at a very reasonable rate. I can get three containers (3lb each) for $127 USD plus $43 USD shipping."

That's 9lbs which is 4kg for $170 (5270 baht). There's a good chance you may pay VAT and import duty on this, which would be an extra 17%.

When you buy pure WPC (or WPI) you're buying the raw protein product that these companies buy in bulk before they add their junk and put on fancy labels.

You only need the protein. The other stuff is marketing junk, sweeteners and flavours. Once they've put a nice label on the container and write some scientific jargon (aka BS) all the young bodybuilders with more money than sense get really excited, thinking this is the way to looking like Arnold.

I notice these days that none of these protein products indicate the percentage of protein on the labels. You have to work it out from the size of the serve and the grams of protein each serve provides. The reason is that all the junk they add lowers the percentage of protein in the formulas. Pure WPC provides around 80% protein but once they've added all the junk you're getting more like 70%.

The raw WPC I mentioned in the thread above provides 80% protein.

PS. I forgot to mention - pure WPC is 5% carbs by weight. WPI is around 0.5%, so calling a protein powder formula low carb is more marketing BS.

Good pernts.

So what do you suspect isopure is putting in this protein so it doesn't taste bitter?

I have no idea what flavouring or sweetener they use, but I have both raw WPI and WPC at home and neither are bitter. I can happily drink both straight mixed in water, but I usually put some flavour. For example, I like a bit of apple sauce with my WPC in water. Other times I blend it with bananas or frozen strawberries. Other times I mix in some vanilla essence or instant coffee and use a stevia blend for sweetening. Some people just mix it with strawberry or chocolate milk, but I'm keeping away from refined sugar.

Personally, I've never tasted 'bitter' raw protein, but a lot of the big names use sucralose to sweeten their stuff.

Bitter Taste? I use ISO100 from Dymatize, no bitter taste there for me for the Gourmet Chocolate. Maybe I am just to old and my tastebuds are shot lol

Mine too.. i got some Dymatize too and the natural one that tropo talks about. The natural one does not taste bad but the Dymatize taste great. But i prefer the natural one if i add flax seed oil. Because that destroys the tast of everything but is healthy.

i just bought 1 dymatize elite whey 5 lb for 1900 baht and 1 dymatize elite xt 4.4 lb (before sleep) for 1500 baht

better than gnc and other overpriced store

club-protein sells soy protein isolate as well as Whey Protein Concentrate.

The website will try to offer some whey isolate around january 2013 (made in Germany), undenatured and fairly priced.
