Anyone interested in scientific investigation of Mars, is encouraged to watch this video, called "Seven MInutes of Terror" It's not some sci-fi spookie stuff, but rather it's the time lag between mission control on Earth, and therefore news from the robot. In other words, it's the time it takes speed-of-light messages to travel between planets - and let's us know (among other things) whether the craft is dead or alive or uselessly lost in space.

Definitely 'cutting edge' mechanics. Tell your kids.

Kinda like dark side of the moon stuff from Apollo 13, or re-entry. Btw, (and I am helping you out here mate) from Thailand in the early mornings around 4am you can see Mars, Venus very clearly lined up with the naked eye. The moon also makes it quite interesting to look at.
