jrtmedic
etoricoxib ( Arcoxia) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, It belongs to a group of similar medications callled Cox inhibiter's . It is claimed that these medications reduce the incidence of gastric bleeding. Many Dr's prefer tp start treatment for osteo -arthritis ( which I assume is your problem) with Paracetamol ( Yanks say Acetaminophen ) either as a single medication or in combination with an non steroidal such as Ibuprofen. NB 1. There is no such thing as a totally safe, free of "side effects" medication. 2. No medication should be taken including over- the counter products without a full risk/benefit assessment being undertaken.( Best done in conjunction with your Dr. who should provide appropriate advise 3. The Mayo clinic provides an excellent and reliable source of medical information. Just Google Mayo Clinic
Sheryl
+1 to the above. It is BTW not accurate to describe this drug as "banned" in the US. It is not a "banned" substance. It is a new drug which the FDA has not approved for use, mainly because there was no evidence to indicate it offered any advantages over older drugs in the same class. There was also concern over risk of cardiovascular problems although that alone would not have precluded approval IF the drug had been shown to offer unique benefits not available from others already on the market. Title edited accordingly.
