WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- President Barack Obama will travel to Colorado on Sunday to meet with families of the victims who were shot by a gunman at a Denver-area movie theater earlier this week, the White House said on late Saturday.

White House communications director Daniel Pfeiffer announced the plans which include meetings with families of the victims as well as local officials. "President Obama will travel to Colorado tomorrow to visit with the families of the victims of Friday's tragic shooting," he said.

In a schedule update, the White House said Obama will depart the White House in Washington, D.C. at 2:15 p.m. EDT and will arrive at Buckley Air Force Base in Aurora at 3:40 p.m. MDT. He is scheduled to leave Aurora at 6:05 p.m. MDT en-route to San Francisco, where he will spend the night.

The shooting massacre happened on Friday when a gunman walked into an auditorium at the Century 16 Movie Theater in Aurora and opened fire, killing twelve people and injuring 58 others in what was one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history. It happened during the midnight premiere of 'The Dark Knight Rises', the third installment in the Batman film series by movie director Christopher Nolan.

Earlier on Saturday, in his weekly radio address, Obama promised to stand by the people of Colorado during this difficult time. "Even as we come to learn how this happened and who's responsible, we may never understand what leads anyone to terrorize their fellow human beings," he said. "Such evil is senseless - beyond reason. But while we will never know fully what causes someone to take the life of another, we do know what makes that life worth living."

Police have arrested 24-year-old James Eagen Holmes of Aurora as a suspect in the massacre, for which the motive is still unknown.

A nice gesture by the President.

My condolences to the family of the victims killed and wishing for a speedy recovery for the injured.

I hope he visits a new place to live in January.

I second that "motion". He needs to move for sure.
