Shagz
Hi, I am an Australian man that works as a Scaffolder up in the North/West Mining Industry of Australia and live in Thailand with my Thai family, I am currently covered by the Western Australian Work Cover and Workers Compensation Injury and Management System because I have a slipped disc in my neck C5/6 that happened while I was at work, I asked my doctor here if I could have all of my treatment over inThailand but he said "where would you find a registered doctor that could deal with my specific problem over there" so now I am on a mission to find one as I find it very hard to believe that there are none and any help from you guys would be much appreciated. Thankyou very much.
CM4Me
There is / was an Aussie Dr down Pattaya way. He regularly wrote articles for the publication 'Pattaya News', and I also believe that he worked at one of the hospitals down there. Sorry, his name eludes me at this time. Good luck
Sheryl
There are, here and there in Bangkok, docs who trained in Oz and at least some of them likely maintained their licensure. You could email the various hospitals but before doing thta, have you tried the Embassy? As they may have a listing.
JohnC
Dr Ian Corness is an Australian consultant at Bangkok Pattaya Hospital
Sheryl
P.S. The doctor the other poster referred to is Dr. Iain Corness and he does indeed write for the Pattaya Mail so you might reach him through there. I think he is also on Facebook. However I think he is not an ortho specialist but he may be able to steer you towards one who trained and is licensed in Oz.

Johnniey
Once in Samitivej, I noticed a Thai doctor had a certificate from graduating from Australia on his wall - sorry, I can't remember his name.

Shagz
I have received an email from Dr. Peter Morley and although he is an Australian Registered Doctor he does not practice in Thailand but he is happy to provide advice or guidance on health issues so I have asked him what he thought about recommendations for the best people in Thailand to take on and deal with my situation as I feel that would also be acceptable by Work Cover. I have given Dr. Morley the link to this post to view and I will keep you all updated. Edited July 26, 2012 by Shagz

tim armstrong
Don't want to dampen your search, but speaking from experience and as an Oz expat living here, your biggest issue might be the insurers, as they can be quite difficult about Drs overseas. They are probably more likely to accept one from Bumrungrad or Samitivej, but I would sound them out first, or get someone to do it on your behalf. Good luck with it. If you go to the embassy ask for the embassy counsellor first. He/she is a more senior Oz person who may advise you without you having to go through all the bureaucracy.

Yes insurers do get funny when your going over seas, I have explained my situation to them and they have said I can do it over seas but only by recommendation of an Australian Registered Doctor which is where Dr Peter Morley from Bumrungrad is going to come into play and thankyou for the tip about the embassy counsellor, great thinking, I will definately do that, thankyou very much for your advice and help and don't worry you haven't dampered me, basically if it can be done then I will most certainly do it but if it can't then so be it. What about the Australian Embassy in Laos. They have a clinic with Ozzie drs. dont they? Thankyou very much for your help, I really do appreciate it but it really must be Thailand for me.
