Farside Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Ok, my wife has had her ILR in her passport for about 2 years now, but this passport expires soon, How does she get the ILR put into a new passport? Also does she need to fly back to thailand to get a new thai passport or can she get one from the thai embassy in the UK via post? Many thanks
7by7 Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 She can apply to the UKBA to have her ILR transferred to her new passport; at a cost of £220 by post or £661 (not a typo!) in person. However, the ILR stamp will still be valid even though the passport it is in has expired, and there is no compulsion to transfer it. Most people don't; they simply carry both old and new passports and show both when necessary. See Transferring your visa to a new passport. You do not need to transfer your visa or residence permit to your new passport. If you choose not to transfer your permit, you should carry both your old and new passports when you travel to the UK - this will prove to our immigration officers that you have the right to be in the UK. If you cannot produce your visa or residence permit when you arrive at our border, you may not be allowed to enter the country. She can apply for a new passport at the RTE in London; she will have to attend in person for biometrics. See E-Passport Application (in English) or here in Thai. Topic title amended to show country; PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE POSTING.
RAZZELL Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 The wife has FLR and got a new passport at RTE no problem - arrived in the post about a 7-10 days after her interview. She recently went back to Thailand on holiday and just took her old passport with her (although she has the new UK plastic card) not a stamp in her passport. RAZZ
