July 24, 201213 yr In the spirit of continuous improvement, one of our more scientifically-minded fellows recommended that we establish a thread on the forum where we could offer constructive criticism for the many trolls amongst us, that they might benefit from our coaching and helpful suggestions. I trust you will all approach this with the positive and constructive attitude that it deserves, and that the recipients of such criticism will appreciate the commentary and learn from it. Some suggestions might be in order: - Please include the name of the poster being appraised, without spelling mistakes, no matter how humourous, in the interests of ease of searching - Please include a link to the specific post or thread being appraised - Please quote specific phrases of particular interest - Please initial any annotations made to quoted posts, to avoid possible misunderstanding I am sure that this will help us all make the forum more interesting, educational and entertaining - a benefit to us all, and in particular, to the kind advertisers that support us SC Edited July 24, 201213 yr by StreetCowboy
July 24, 201213 yr SC, Is this to improve their trolling skills or show them the error of their ways? If it is to improve their skills, it will show that there is a little troll in all of us................... Interesting thread never-the-less; should be some good responses to this.................
July 24, 201213 yr Author Here's an example from MrsMills, one of our more established posters They've not included anything prejudicial or offensive in the opening post, and so the thread has been swamped with positive and uplifting posts from people who are proud of their other halves. There has been nothing off-colour, nor any opportunity for bigots to leap on one another. Within a few posts, it had developed such a positive vibe that any cynical generalisations that would stir ill-natured bickering would be as welcome as pissing in the communion wine. I doubt this thread will get to four pages... not without active promotion around the forum... SC
July 24, 201213 yr Author RAZZ (EDIT: RAZZELL) http://www.thaivisa....s/#entry5513715 A pretty pointless thread criticising the forum participants in general and currying favour with the mods, its too directionless to really attract much debate. Specific examples would have been better, with an attempt to link the aspects of the posters and their postings that were being criticised to perceived real-world shortcomings. Won't even get to the third page... May well be closed for discussion of moderation, when discussion drifts that way... SC Edited July 24, 201213 yr by StreetCowboy

July 24, 201213 yr I would like to mention this excellent thread that has been started by David48. TheExcellentThreadisHere A small piece of feedback to the OP. I didn't get that quite right. We learn with every OP. Still, keeps the troops entertained. Might drop by myself now and add a bit more advice. One which I did recently which I was proud of is here A Farming Myth But this isn't what the OP wants. I have something in mind and will post soon ... .
July 24, 201213 yr Author Our newly reincarnated friend KnowledgeFoundation has chosen a topic which no-one will take seriously, and yet neither will they find it offensive. I am sure that in the spirit of charity we can all do some good work here. I am away on baht earning duty now, but will try to lend some support later. July 25, 201213 yr Author I just started an underpants thread... I contributed ... do have a look at the nice video. Good job, MrsMils. An excellent topic, and one which many of us have probably fretted over in lonely isolation, never thinking to share the dilemma with our fellows. Can I suggest a link makes any cross-reference more effective, and can draw the reader to what you feel is the most important or interesting part of the discussion It is also possible to link to something which may surprise the gentle reader, though it would be in poor taste to link to something that others might find offensive* SC * I did not have the heart to trawl for a thread of Glasgow Celtic Football Club by way of an example of the latter Edited July 25, 201213 yr by StreetCowboy

July 25, 201213 yr Author EmptyBasementBin shows that its the empty vessels that make the most noise in this helpful and constructive thread In slightly more than two weeks, he seems to have learnt how to rile our natives; I suspect MikeandDow (pronounced like mycandle with an English accent, probably) may be a born-again spleen merchant. Anyway, my prognisis is early euthanasia, since apart from the Original Post, no-one has anything to say on the thread other than to slag off the OP. To get a really good argument, someone needs to take a contrary position. SC

But as so often on these fora, that advice seems to lack the indulgent tolerance that our parents demonstrated in our own upbringing, and seems, in many cases, predicated on a rather churlish and incharitable view of people beyond our immediate circle of acquaintance.

July 26, 201213 yr Who says you need the mention of sex, sin sod ,bargirls, women to get a good thread going? Just mention Starbucks and Teachers.! 18000+ views in 2 days I have to compliment George on the brilliant hook Starbucks Thailand Tells Teachers "Order More Coffee Or Get Lost", that appeared in Thailand news forum. By referring to private tutors as teachers (correct of course) and alluding to teachers alleged cheapness, the thread has gone TV viral! http://www.thaivisa....ee-or-get-lost/ We could use a few more threads like this.

August 16, 201213 yr Author This one is quite good. Brief, with a fictitious story aimed at irating one of our regular posters. Good details in the story, but slightly lacking in plausibility, I think The bodybuilder in question has not had a chance to respond yet, so we'll see how he takes the bait SC
August 19, 201213 yr Author Well, the bodybuilder never rose to the bait, as far as I can tell. What about this one: http://www.thaivisa....t/#entry5585477 Very simple, a subject close to the heart of many of our posters, and one that will surely draw out vituperative bar-girl-bashers, people deriding the foolishness of their fellows; he's tapped a rich vein of spleen, but I expect it will not last long; less than five pages, less than a week. August 20, 201213 yr Author How many posts must one accrue before credibility is achieved? How many post are necessary before you attain the right to call troll? We can all call troll; some of us are accorded the privelige of avoiding it,by our fellows. I think the successful 'professionals' season their account for at least a few months and aim to accrue a few sozen posts to give them some credibility. I've copied this coversation to "Critics' Corner", where it belongs, for fear of avoiding extremes SC
