Good Eye Clinic In Ubon

Recommended Posts

I had an eye operation in Bangkok to repair a detached retina a couple of years ago while I was on holidays and had regular checkups by an opthamologist in Australia. I am now back living in Ubon and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good eye clinic/opthamologist in Ubon to have a check up with. I am trying to avoid travelling to Bangkok where I had the operation unless I really have to.

Thanks

Sezzo, I am sorry if the following is a tad vague, but maybe it can be of use to you, or others may have more information;

On Chayangkun Road, somewhere between Pathumrat Hotel and the traffic lights (Mazda showroom), there is a man said to be very good.

Our daughter-in-law is awaiting retinal surgery in Bangkok soon, and she went to him while she was visiting us here - had a good talk with him and was satisfied with his service.

I now may be able to offer more constructive advice.

I went to get my eyes checked at my optician, Chaaw Ween, last week. Been going to him for 20 years or more. His son, newly graduated, did the tests. After 20 minutes of looking at lines, numbers, colours, letters, photos etc, he asked me, "Do I have a cataract in my right eye?" Well, how would I know? He said I had one. So today when I went in to collect my new spectacles (18,000 baht but with the old frames, Ouch) I asked more about the cataract. He said it was just beginning and no worries. NO WORRIES.

So I am off to the eye specialist as soon as possible.

Chaaw Ween said that Dr Sunsanee is the best, Her clinic was nearby on Thanon Luang. To get there, coming from Warin turn right, coming from Thung Sri Muang turn left) at the center one way road running through the old town. At the fourth intersection turn left and Dr Sunsanee's clinic is on the left, about 20-30 metres after turning. Her hours are 18:00 to 20:00 hrs Mon-Fri and 9:00-12:00 hrs on Saturday. I am going there on Saturday morning.

I asked about Dr Sima up near the Phatumrat hotel. Chaww Ween said he was good but he has a ton of patients and often was rushing and not thorough, However, I have heard many good words about him but one has to queue. Whereas Dr Sunsanee has time to really check things out. Her phone number is 045-255190. I prefer the lady.

Dr Sima's clinic is at Talart 6 on Chayangkhun Road. Next to the Thanakhan Chart Thai (Thai Bank) (Formerly Siam Commercial Bank), right next to the turn into the Phathumrat hotel.

I hope this information is of help.

David if they are going to do a cataract op, check to see that it is the new version. I had both eyes done in Australia a few months ago and the new procedure is out, They don;t remove the old lens, just the liquid in it and put a new lens in the sack. I am told that the old lens replacement system may need a new one after 10 years, the newer system never or just a laser clean up if any deposits settle. Jim

Thank you Jim.

I went to Dr Sansanee this morning and I have cataracts in both eyes. The right one is more serious than the left. but at the moment there is no urgency. She is not a surgeon but only an eye doctor. She gave to drops to put in both eyes and after one month I will go back again and see if the cataracts are expanding or staying still. If surgery is needed then we will discuss which doctor, where and what the procedures will be.

I want your new procedure and I think this Dr Sima may do it.

If it can not be done in Ubon I will fly down to Bangkok.

Dr Sansanee is young and pretty. Pity she can not do the surgery.

Will keep you posted

Peter just to put your mind at ease, getting a filling is worse than the Operation. The actual op takes about 10 minutes, go home. You have a patch overnight and hey presto the next day you can drive. Drops for a month and a cover over the eye at night so you don;t rub it in your sleep. Jim
