Transit In Doha

Featured Replies

Hey Everybody,

So I will have a 2hr stop-over/transit in Doha soon, I would like a bit of advice please.

What currency can you spend?

How much would I need for a meal and a drink?

Do women have to cover up or do anything to avoid upsetting Muslims?

What is the overall transit experience like?

Any hints or tips would be great

No smart-arse or Troll comments please.

Thanks

Anton

Hi,

I work in Doha and use the airport often. Females do not need to be covered. Jeans and T-shirts are fine if you are staying in the transit lounge,

Money can be Qatari Riyals, UAE dirhams, US dollars, UK pounds or Euro. Not sure about Thai baht. You would have to email the airport directly for that info. Lots of ATM machines though that will issue either riyals or US dollars.

A meal or a drink.......figure on around 25-40 riyals per person, Approx 200-350 baht each.

The overall experience is ok. Seen much worse.

Once the plane lands, a fleet of air-con buses will drive you to the transit lounge, that's about 6-8 minutes away. You will be given colour coded flight tickets and baggage labels (Yellow). There are different colours for those who will stay in Doha, business class etc.

On the bus, there are three stops. Yours is the very first one, remember that.

The lounge is fairly small but there is adequate seating, toilets, shops etc. There are smoking rooms if you need one.

Doha will have a brand new airport (almost completed) and that will do away with the buses etc but will not be fully operational until early 2013.
