To the OP ... you speak about the word Farang as if it's an insult ... and rest assured, it is simply a descriptor and a small compliment.

Oh gawd...here we go again...A few years ago I worked with quite a highly educated Thai lady engineer and i ask her this exact question and dependent on the context it could be taken as a lighted hearted joke or intended as an insult,

I have had many highly educated Thais tell me just the opposite, including Thai professors of English. If they say (in Thai) stupid farang it is an insult, if they just say farang it means white person - which is not an insult.

So why was he repeating over and over louder and louder closer and closer, eying at hisgrandma and gigling everytime ?

Without getting involved in a debate as to whether or not the word farang is an insult or not, I would say it's fairly clear the grandma was at least trying to annoy the OP by getting the kid to continuously shout the word at her. I believe the OP is French, if a westerner repeatedly shouted "French person" at her I'm sure it would also be annoying.

From the title I was expecting this to be a question such as how many clowns can you take in VW beetle . and I was all prepared with my facts, How big a farang? did they bathe regurlarly ? etc.

Imagine my disappointment when I found out it was about an obnoxious brat and a grandparent unable or unwilling to control him

I guess we have never seen that in any country before.

no in UK or France or any other country I have never seen parents telling kids to call Foreigners foreigners over and over

I usually reply, Farang yuu nai which badly translated ( I am partly deaf and tone deaf) comes out to my ears as where is the farang.

It tends to confuse Thais a bit.

Other than that I really don't bother about it.

only children and unintelligent rural thais are going to be doing the thing where they point at you and say farang with a huge grin. don't worry about it so much. for the children, just engage them. for the toothless locals, just smile back. Sometimes I like to make funny facial expressions at them when they are piled up in the back of a pick up truck but my wife made me stop saying these types can go off easily.

All thais hate you, including the kids, the dogs the mosquitos and the ants.

It's part of the culture.

The granny probably just wants him to be friendly and try talking to a foreigner which he may have never done before. If all else fails call him saparot which should get a smile or laugh out of them.
