Ubon Ratchathani Is Going To Develop More

The government is going to pour money into the northeast. And we in Ubon are going to get some of this the government says.

Today"s Bangkok post "In the transport sector, the projects proposed will include an 18-billion-baht project for 10 new highways and dual railway tracks between Nakhon Ratchasima and Ubon Ratchathani, expected to be completed in 2019. It also includes development of Ubon Ratchathani airport to become the Indochina aviation hub".

More trains, more airplanes! Would be nice to fly directly out of Ubon to say Singapore without having to connect through Bangkok.

Probably more traffic jams in the city. Land prices will go out the roof. I can't believe the amount of intercity development taking place at the moment. Old wooden building and old shop-houses are being pulled down and new shop-houses going up. Massive buildings of mansions and apartments and these new mini-hotels all over the city.

I posted in another thread, wife attended a Government run SME conference a month or 2 ago.

They were told that although the Government had incentives for industry to move from the south to Issan there was no need for them in Ubon, as it was growing rapidly on it;s own.

Don't think it is just the city, but most of Ubon province for some reason. Even out here, in the no where lands around Buntharik, new business are popping up everywhere, house building and new cars. It will be suburbia in 10 years. Jim

Same, same in Khemarat. New shops, restaurants, cafes etc going up everywhere. Main road through Khemarat is being widened. Every week we come back to the farm there is something new being started

Meanwhile, it took me 45 minutes to go round Ubon on the northern bit of the ringroad (entry from Kemmarat, exit towards SiSaket) at 7:00 pm last night. Sunday night <deleted>!

Was it candle festival weekend or something? Hope some of that money will go into over/under passes at Sisaket, Yaso and AmChar junctions. Really what`s needed is a few clicks of elevated freeway. Four lanes and all those commercial businesses feeding straight onto the road used to work, but give it another 3 years and it will be worse than hell. Work needs to start now.
