Marriage In Thailand

Featured Replies

Quick question, how do I go about getting my marriage legalised in Thailand?

We have been married in the UK for over six years, but we have now moved back to Thailand. My wife has British citizenship and I am on a non-imm b through my work, so this question has nothing to do with applying for visas either here or in the UK, we'd just like to have the Thai papers stating we are legally wed.

What's the procedure?

Cheers,

'LL'

If you wife has Thai nationality have marriage certificate translated to Thai and then have it certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (translator can get this done) and go to the Amphoe for the registraion.

If not Thai then it is not possible to register your marriage.

But unless you intend to extend your stay for marriage it really is not required. You are married regardless of recording it here.

Yes, I know it isn't really required, we just thought it might be nice to do it.

The only other thing is all my wife's documentation for Thailand, id card, bank accounts etc are all still in her maiden name. Having it legalised here, I did think it may make having them changed to her married name easier.

When you register your marriage they will change the house book and ID card as part of the process.

Re her change of names, ONLY if she wants to, not mandatory.
