RobertCompassion
Masonry, carpentry and other construction work are 'reserved occupations' in Thailand. They can only be done by Thais which means you'd never get a work permit. You aren't allowed to work (even as a volunteer) in Thailand without a work permit. All the people on TOURIST visa's from LAOS in Thailand, You don't suppose they are working here do you? lol I think if you arent surrounded by snitches u wont have trouble working here bud.. draftvader
anyone know of any timbermerchants on the net, bkk area i could look into ? There are a variety of areas that specialise in timber. I only know the one near to my home, but it is a start. Maybe others can assist with locations near them so that you can find the most convenient one for you. http://bit.ly/OGuos5 This is up near to Bang Sue. I have been purchasing small quantities of wood and other materials here for 4 years. I have always found the service helpful and friendly. If you are patient enough they will dig up a good English speaker for you too. The reason this location is here is because all the good timber is towed in on the river (there is a theory that this hardens the wood - ref: Stradivarius). Good luck, be careful.
