i'm off to Savannkhet soon and i'm still not sure if i wan't to stay at the casino, as this is my first trip, is there anywhere else near the embassy i can stay . I thought about the Leena Guesthouse but i'm after more info on other hotlles in the area.

I have stayed at the Mekong Hotel (it's been awhile though) which is on the river a short distance from consulate. There are several others in the same area.

I have done it, 100% do the casino visa run package, it is actually cheaper by the time you ad all the transfers in. Tuks Tuks are expensive there. Are you flying in? They have an office on the Thai side of the bridge and really take care of you. It is a seriously boring town !!!

Walk past the consulate towards the river. Turn left or right and theres places either way about 100 yards. They are crap but only 350 bht a night.

lenna gusthouse is good, they have bikes cheap, it is 5 or 7 minutes to the consulate, lenna is a very nice place but no fridge, as most places in town
