buadhai
It's a diesel engine fuel injection technology: Diesel Common Rail Explained
wilko
The commonrail system ensures that by squirting the diesel into the combustion chamber in a way that allows it to explode in a very efficient way, the engine is less niosy, and more efficient, this means better performannce and economy. Basically it is a high pressure tube along side the engine into which deisel is puimped, it is then squirted through individual, highly sophisticated injectors into each cylinder... Diesel is exploded not by a spark plug but by compressing the air/fuel mixture until it spontaneously combusts. This works best with a fine spray of diesel well mixed with the air, the commonrail system allows multiple squirts each time allowing for a smooth "bang" - so less niose and because the spray is so fine better combustion - so better performance and economy..
