first, let me again say "thanks" to those of you whom helped me a bit less than one month ago. phuket immigration was indeed super nice, they gave me the 10 day extension with no problem! i then did my diving in burma!!!

now, i am facing the expiry of my second 30 day on-arrival thai visa. it will expire on 01 feb. at that time, i will be in chiang mai. i think i will just go to the myanmar town (i am so sorry, but my guidebook is upstairs, and i don't remember the name. i think mai son is in thailand, but i'm not sure...) to do the visa run. is this still possible? my guidebook is 3 years old, and with the myanmar situation, i thought if i could have a bit of info sooner, rather than later...

thanks again.

yours,

dave

visa run to Mae Si (Thats the name you were looking for is no problem) Take a bus from Chaing mai....the trip takes about 5-6 hours...

You can not go there and back in the same day unless you leave Chaing Mai 7am......the last bus home to chaing mai from Mae Si is around 4 i think....

Why not spend a night in chaing Rai????

It's also spelled Mae Sai, and the Myanmarese town on the north side of the little river is Tachilek (or Talichek).

Experts - can tourists with on-arrival stamps do this kind of visa run? I don't know. Does his nationality matter?

And you must be prepared to show 10,000 Thai baht in CASH on your person, although they may not ask. The fee to enter Myanmar is 200 or 250 baht, or a United States 5 dollar bill.

... sure, inasmuch as it isn't exactly a visarun he is doing --- he's merely leaving Thailand and entering again. Since his nationality was okay for his present 'visa on arrival' it will also be okay for the next one (unless things change, of course)

and just a while ago, i opened up this day's copy of bangkok nation, and saw where a new friendship bridge was opened yesterday in chiang rai province, linking mae sae and talichek (or tachilek, i don't know either. or i forgot, i guess...)

thanks, i will find out details from chiang mai tomorrow!!!
