Democrat not in rush to file censure motion

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat Part will not rush to file a censure motion against the government, chief opposition whip Jurin Laksanavisit said on Tuesday.

Jurin said the Democrats have until November to hold a censure debate.

Jurin said there are more urgent issues, namely the budget bill debate and the debate on the government's performance after one year in office.

Jurin said the budget bill is expected to be deliberated in the second reading on August 15.

Political observers say the Democrats want to batter the government during the budget bill debate and firstanniversary performance debate before aggravating the wounds in a censure debate.

Democrat secretarygeneral Chalermchai Srion said the Democrats were compiling information to censure Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

Chalermchai said Yingluck should not use her femininity to try to avoid attacks by the Democrats. Sex and politics must be separated, he said.

Yingluck said she would be ready to answer the opposition's charges during the debate.

She said the government has a duty to answer the opposition's questions. She said she regarded the censure debate as a good chance to provide explanations to the public.

She said she had yet to see the allegations being made by the opposition in order to prepare herself to answer them.

We'll see just how far sex and politics are seperated tomorrow if the three amigos, Sirichok Sopha, Thepthai Senapong and Chavanond Intarakomalyasut bother to answers summons from the police or whether they will be less than gentlemenly and claim immunity during a parliamentary session.The three of them are subject to questioning wrt defamation saying ungentlemanly things about Yingluck and the Four Seasons. Worth watching out for, I remember a few of our members posting some salacious comments about Yingluck...................................

I know a few musketeers on the run avoiding to answer and be held responsible for their actions.

AT LEAST the Dems are still in Thailand....

Yingluck said she would be ready to answer the opposition's charges during the debate.

She said the government has a duty to answer the opposition's questions.

Shame she didn't feel the same sort of obligation to be forthright in answering any questions during any pre-election debate of candidates.

The last two paragraphs of PM speak seem to display why she has the number of supporters she has. Her job is to keep the public aware of and explain what is going on, on a regular basis, not just during a censure. If she would step up and show real leadership instead of acting the prima donna, the public would not be confused, demanding what they were promised and have not received, etc.

If she wants to know what questions she should prepare for, she may try reading the papers, and monitor the various groups who are complaining. Doubt if she has ever been exposed to "crunch time". In the real world, when things have not gone as you promised, you need to either make adjustment to the organization/plan or make an exit plan for yourself. Here is a hint, ask big brother.

The news item doesn't make clear if Yingluck's prepared answers are to be part of a debate, or just read unopposed

Maybe a sign the democrats start to "get it".

There have been clear signals in the local and international press, recent poll, current issue of The Economist, that the people are tired of the senseless infighting that have been going on in the parliament. They want stability. They don't want drama, military coup or judicial shenanigans.

And the result of the pas election have been analysed. The democrats have lost not because the other side cheated but because of their arrogance, they were so sure that they government belongs to them than they didn't ever bother to properly campaign.

There are signs that they finally "get it". Lets see ...

No. They are just waiting until after the budget bill. Their job as the opposition is to debate the government in parliament. It seems like you don't like the idea of the opposition pointing out where the government's policy is bad for the country.
