Hi All

The past couple of years have flew by and the time is now coming where we need to think about the next step of our life.

We have been married 2 happy years in January and my wife's settlement visa expires in July next year. She arrived in the uk on April 20th 2011 and wondered what is the next step to take for her to stay here as we are not ready to move to Thailand for another 5-10 years yet.

I have read about indefinite leave to remain somewhere and is that the next step before she can become british citizen after taking a test and so on and so forth.

This forum was so informative and have us the knowledge we needed for our smooth successfull application.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Dom

Yes, Indefinite Leave to Remain is the next step. As she arrived in April 2011 she can apply for this from April 1013 (actually up to 28 days before the second anniversary of her arrival) and must have applied before her visa expires in July; the latest date for submitting an application being the date it expires.

See Completing application form SET(M) and the relevant links from there.

Your wife has presumably satisfied the Knowledge of Life and Language in the UK requirement; unless exempt.

Once she has ILR and has lived in the UK for at least three years she can apply for citizenship. See British Citizenship Basics.
