We have moved here under an expat agreement, our furniture and belongings are in transit.

The moving company this end have requested our passports and visa docs when the good arrive as part of the process.

They say we will get them back when the goods are delivered to us. so they will have them for approx two weeks.

Is this the norm? My reation is I am not keen to let them out of my control to a company i have no real connection with

It is common practise when importing things.

If you import household efects duty free, customs will make a note in your passport that you received a shipment.

However, it is illegal to be without your passports in Thailand, also you should never hand them to anyone.

Read the stories on here about people who have given their passports over to people as security.
