Thaksin will not return to power after second term: Thirayuth

BANGKOK: -- Academic and social critic Thirayuth Boonme Sunday foresees that Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will fail to return to the power in the next general election after the end of his second term.

Thirayuth reasoned that the worsening corruption and political crisis would be main factors which prevented Thaksin from making a political comeback after his tern ended in three years.

He said the government under Thaksin leadership was transforming Thailand from the condition that government was in control of businesses to the condition that the government was under control of businesses.

He said the Thaksin government permitted the country to be exploited by certain families and soon by foreign investors, and this would further aggravate corruption situation.

Despite the gloomy picture, Thirayuth said he did not support the campaign by media tycoon Sondhi Limthongkul to oust Thaksin as the move would be undemocratic means.

He said a way-out should be constitutional amendments to plug corruption loopholes and empower independent organisations to function as real check-and-balance mechanism.

toxin has taken what he wants for his family and friends, god knows what he will be worth when his term ends.

and what will be left sor his successr. and do you think he will stay in thailand.

Actually this is good news for the next PM. With nothing left to loot, the ambitious politicians will have to find another job and Thai politics will be left with "true" public servants :o

Actually Toxin is not so bad. We might regret him if a new "ambitious" anti-foreigner PM shows up for the job. It could get really bad.
