Over the last four years I have bought about one dozen items from Amazon.com.

All of my purchases have arrived on time and in perfect order but for two of the items I had to go to the had Post Office in Naklua and pay duty.

I didn't mind that but I wondered why those two items and not the others.

Also, every now and then I find something on Amazon.com that I really really must have but when I'm almost finished filling in the order sheet,I'm told that 'we do not currently ship to your present destination' !! WTH?

But all in all I'm find I am very happy with Amazon.com and will continue to use them.

Good luck....

You can now pre pay with amazon the import duty costs on Amazon Exports. Much better than the occasional dodgy amounts they ask for if processed here.

Shipito.com is what you need for Amazon items that do not export.

Amazon exports are interesting. If you select a product that has a choice of retail packaging or Amazon hassle free packaging. The item will usually export from them in the hassle free packaging option but not the retail packaging. Haven't quite figured out why yet tho.

Selling on Amazon is very difficult, because their categories are highly restrictive. Some categories, such as clothing, you have to apply to sell and they only give permission to the big brand names. Also, i don't think they allow you to sell direct from Thailand, so you will need have an address in a country were Amazon allow, and you will have to use their fulfillment program.

if you think ebay is fun then wait for Amazon customer service..a total nightmare

Also you list a one off on Amazon then someone jumps on your listing and undercuts your price destroying your sales, after you have made the listing. There are people just scanning Amazon looking to jump on others listings ...then if the item is a fantastic seller Amazon themselves will start to sell the item...its a real competitive and unfair system. Many restricted category's are almost impossible to break into

Feedback is a nightmare ..only around 5% of buyers will bother to give feedback then 1 numpty comes along gives you a negative for the rain outside his house and your account is destroyed

ebay and amazon are the controllers of the game and you will get nothing but stress and headaches; especially if there is a flood in Thailand and your shipments get delayed a week or so

Also to get TS on eBAY means nothing 2 bad buyers and your account is history /// I know I've lost track of TS accounts i've lost some with many 1,000's of feedback...the BBE (bad buyer experience is a 30 day moving average..your history means nothing.

Here is an Amazon email reply for the application to sell a certain item of Clothing .......

Since Apparel is currently a gated category, there are some set criteria that needs to be passed in order to sell these products. Please fill in the below questionnaire fully, failure to answer any question may result in immediate decline;

1. Your business name:

2. URL link to your transactional website (eBay or your own website) on which you are selling your products – 3rd party websites will not be accepted:

3. Will all products that you intend to list have manufacturer barcodes, i.e. 13-digit EAN or 12-digit UPC barcodes? Please provide examples.

4. Are you applying to be an FBA seller?

5. If you are not an FBA seller, have you got a US-based order fulfilment and returns centre? If not, how will you manage order fulfilment and customer returns?

6. Do all the product images you intend to use comply with Amazon site standards?

Please provide examples via email or as a link to your website.

7. Are the goods intended for sale within the US and compliant with all US laws and regulations? Only products that are intended to be sold in the US can be listed on Amazon If you are not sure, please check with the manufacturer or supplier.

8. Have you got a UK-based customer service number and can you provide customer service in English?

9. What product selection are you planning to offer? Please provide the number of SKUs; at least 30 different products are required.

Once we have received this information, we will review your application. Please note that all of the details listed above are required in order for a review to be initiated. If any of the required pieces of information is missing from the request, your application will not be considered.

Hello,

A friend told me that Amazon is just better than Ebay because there is no listing fee to be paid even if your items do not sell (but on ebay you pay even if you don't sell, right ?)

Cheers.
