how do you get the emoticons to work on a samsung note android phone?

I'm missing the ability to demonstrate the full witticism of my sparkling personality.

I was intending to post this in android support but I couldn't resist the opportunity to announce that I have a new Android phone and resist the temptation to wind up some of my fellow members.
