Mental Health patient in apparent suicide attempt in East Pattaya

PATTAYA:--A mentally unstable Thai Man climbed a 60 meter-high electric pylon early on Thursday Morning in East Pattaya and was threatening to jump.

The man was identified as Khun Wijit aged 32, a former soldier. He was spotted by a member of the public who called the Police who were able to track-down his girlfriend, Khun Rainoogar aged 30 who was able to communicate with Khun Wijit via mobile phone.

After one hour, he slowly climbed-down from the Tower and then drove off into the night with his girlfriend. Police were told he was currently under treatment at the Prapokklao Hospital in Chantaburi Province which has a dedicated mental health unit. It is known that he had drunk heavily earlier in the night which may have caused an acute neurotic episode leading him to make the apparent suicide attempt. He did say that he missed his girlfriend and hated the fact she would sometimes go out without him.
